Women's basketball tops Wheelock

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. – The University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team evened its record at 10-10 overall and improved to 7-3 in the North Atlantic Conference with a 60-40 victory over Wheelock College today. 

Ashley Busque (Belgrade, ME) paced the Beavers with 16 points, while Erin Porter (Bangor, ME) chipped in 13 points and Erin Johnson (Bailey Island, ME) pitched in 12 points. Ten of Johnson's total came in the first half as Farmington built a 35-20 advantage at intermission.

Farmington tallied 30 second-chance points and held a 44-17 rebounding advantage. Porter, Johnson and Jillian Ross (Belfast, ME) each grabbed seven boards. The Beavers also scored 30 points off 31 Wheelock turnovers, but were hampered by 34 turnovers on their own end.

Erin Reardon led Wheelock (3-18, 1-12) with 11 points with Sarah Brown adding 10 points.

Farmington is scheduled to return to action next Saturday with a trip to Thomas College. The NAC doubleheader features the women's game at 1 p.m. followed by the men's contest.
