Women's basketball topped by MMA
CASTINE – University of Maine at Farmington slipped to 10-12 overall and 7-5 in the North Atlantic Conference with a 65-40 loss at Maine Maritime Academy tonight in NAC women's basketball competition. defeat
The Beavers are scheduled to be back in action Friday and Saturday when they host Bay Path College and Lesley University. The Mariners improved to 16-8 (11-2).
The score was 34-22 at halftime and the Mariners outscored Farmington 31-18 in the second half to secure the win. The Mariners dominated the boards, outrebounding the Beavers 51-35 on the game, including 23 offensive boards. MMA’s defense held the Beavers to 26 percent shooting from the floor and forced 31 turnovers on the evening.
Jillian Ross (Belfast, ME) led Farmington with 15 points and six rebounds in the loss. Ashley Busque (Belgrade, ME) also played well in the loss, scoring nine points and grabbed four rebounds, while Erin Porter (Bangor, ME) scored eight points and grabbed nine rebounds.
The Mariners had three players in double figures led by Megan Franklin (Skowhegan, ME) who scored 11 points and grabbed eight rebounds, while Tatum Welch (Newport, ME) scored 10 points and grabbed 14 rebounds in the win. Brittany Hunt (Hickory, NC) also played well in the victory scoring 10 points while connecting on three shots from beyond the arc. Amanda Barker (Waterville, ME) continued her stellar play scoring nine points while Kelsi Eiane (Harpswell, ME) finished the game with five steals.
