FARMINGTON -- Caitlyn Laflin (Farmingdale, ME) tallied a game-high 23 points with Amanda Byrne (Winslow, ME) adding 21 points, including clutch free throw shooting down the stretch, to lead the University of Maine of Farmington women's basketball team to an 83-69 victory over Maine Maritime Academy in North Atlantic Conference action this afternoon.

The Beavers ran their record to 5-7 (2-1 in the North Atlantic Conference) and are off until they travel to Johnson State and Castleton State College next weekend. The Mariners slipped to 6-6 (1-1) and are scheduled to host Bowdoin on Tuesday.

Laflin's total featured three 3-pointers, while Byrne converted nine of 10 free throw attempts to close out the contest. Samantha Wiley (Lincolnville, ME) also hit three 3-pointers in the win and finished with 10 points, while Byrne and Wiley dished out seven and six assists, respectively.

Kaitlyn Leeman (Baileyville, ME) led the Mariners with 16 points, while Tatum Welch (Newport, ME) supplied 13 points and nine rebounds.

With the contest knotted at 27-27, Farmington went on a 10-4 run -- capped by a Laflin 3-pointer -- to end the first half with a 37-31 advantage. Laflin scored 12 points in the opening frame.

Wiley opened the second half with a 3-pointer to push the lead to 40-31, but Maine Maritime battled back to within two points on a pair of occasions. The Mariners were within striking distance at 11:25 at 50-47 when the Beavers marched on a 10-1 run over a two-minute span to take a 60-48 command.  Maine Maritime did not get closer than eight points the rest of the way.
