Women’s basketball rallies by Lesley
FARMINGTON -- The University of Maine Farmington women’s basketball team fought back from a double-digit deficit to snatch a 78-67 victory from Lesley University this afternoon in North Atlantic Conference action at Dearborn Gymnasium.
The Beavers improved to 11-12 overall and 8-5 in the NAC. Farmington is scheduled to face Bay Path College on Sunday at noon. The Lynx finished their season at 11-12 (5-9).
Erin Porter (Bangor, ME) led the Beavers with 17 points, while Jillian Ross (Belfast, ME) provided 14 points off the bench and Samantha Wiley (Lincolnville, ME) supplied 10 points. Erin Johnson (Bailey Island, ME) grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Farmington, which held a 43-37 advantage on the boards. Johnson -- along with Brittany Davis (Saco, ME) and Meagan Dube (Lewiston, ME) -- were honored as seniors playing in their final weekend at Dearborn Gymnasium.
Kaitlyn Wechsler (Merrick, NY) scored 16 points for Lesley with Brianna Caira (Pelham, NH) adding 15 points.
After carrying a 33-27 lead into intermission, Lesley continued to take it to the Beavers with a pair of Courtney Leakeas (Wilmington, MA) free throws pushing the advantage to 40-30 with 15:26 remaining in the game. Porter followed with a 3-pointer to ignite a 13-0 two-minute run by the Beavers. Porter capped the stretch with a layup to give Farmington a 43-30 lead.
Following the run, the Beavers did not relent with Porter along with Ross and Wiley (each of whom did all of their scoring in the second half) leading Farmington in outscoring the Lynx 51-34 in the frame en route to a 78-67 victory.
