Women's basketball battles back for win over Lasell

WILLIAMSTOWN, Mass. -- Caitlyn Laflin (Farmingdale, ME) drained three free throws with no time remaining to allow the University of Maine at Farmington women's basketball team to slip out of the Williams Holiday Classic with a 67-66 win over Lasell College on Sunday.

The Beavers (3-2) took a 13-point lead (40-27) early in the second half, but the Lasers (1-5)  used a 21-3 run mid-frame to push into a 60-52 command with 5:20 left to play in the contest. Farmington came back with a 3-pointer by Amanda Byrne (Winslow, ME) tied the game at 63-63 with 1:39 remaining. Lasell took a 66-64 lead on a Lauren Picozzi free throw with eight seconds left, but Laflin was fouled on a 3-point attempt and hit each shot for the win.

Laflin finished with 20 points and eight rebounds, while Erin Porter (Bangor, ME) and Byrne chipped in 12 and 11 points respectively.

Christina DeLuca scored 16 points for Lasell with Carla Zinno adding 14 points, Shauna Kelly 11 points and Tricia Culver 10 points.

Farmington is scheduled to host Bates College at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
