Women's basketball upended by Husson

FARMINGTON -- Husson College overcame a 10-point second-half deficit to snatch a 74-71 win over the University of Maine at Farmington in North Atlantic Conference women's basketball competition tonight at Dearborn Gymnasium.

The Eagles ran their record to 8-6 and 5-0 in the NAC, while the Beavers fell to 6-9 (3-3). Farmington is scheduled to host NAC foe Elms College on Friday.

Shelby Bradford (Lee, ME) tallied 26 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in the victory with Noelle Lincoln (Dixmont, ME) supplying 11 points, including three 3-pointers.

Caitlyn Laflin (Farmingdale, ME) powered the Beavers with 34 points and 16 rebounds as Farmington bounced back from a horrid start to outscore the Eagles 40-15 during a midgame stretch. Amanda Byrne (Winslow, ME) pitched in with 9 points in the loss, while Ashley Busque (Belgrade, ME) chipped in eight points.

Farmington stumbled out of the opening with 3 for 17 shooting from the field and eight turnovers in the opening 10 minutes as Husson built a 23-8 lead on a 3-pointer by Michelle Barden (St. Albans, ME). The Beavers went on a 14-0 run from there with Laflin scoring 10 points as Husson snuck into the locker room with a 30-28 advantage.

The Beavers seized the lead early in the second half and pushed it to double-digits with a jumper by Brittany York (Strong, ME) making the score 48-38 with 10:01 remaining in the game. The Eagles rallied with a Lincoln trey tying the contest at 55 with 4:58 left in the game. Nip and tuck down the stretch, a 3-pointer by Laura Archer (Ellsworth, ME) gave Husson a 71-66 lead with 39 seconds remaining in the contest and the 74-71 win.
