Women's basketball topped at Colby

WATERVILLE -- Colby College built a 13-point halftime advantage and went on to defeat the University of Maine at Farmington 77-68 in women's basketball action tonight at Wadsworth Gymnasium.

Caitlyn Laflin (Farmingdale, ME) led the Beavers (8-10) with a game-high 27 points, while Erin Porter (Bangor, ME) added 13 points and Ashley Busque (Belgrade, ME) chipped in 11 points off the bench. Amanda Byrne (Winslow, ME) had seven points and seven assists.

Katie McCabe (Watertown, CT) had her third straight double-double game with 21 points and 15 rebounds for Colby. Alison Cappelloni (Sudbury, MA) added 19 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, and four blocked shots for the Mules (5-11). Karlyn Adler (Rye Brook, NY) nailed four 3-point field goals on the way to 16 points and seven assists, while Julianne Kowalski (Montville, NJ) scored 10 points and had six rebounds. Beth Bartley (Greenville, ME) came off the bench and added six rebounds and three blocked shots.

Colby led 67-47 with 9:23 left in the game, but the Beavers battled back and cut the lead to 73-68 when Elizabeth Bell (Waterville, ME) hit a layup with 51 seconds remaining. The Mules hit 4-for-4 from the foul line from that point to seal the victory.

The game was close for most of the first half until a late run by Colby. The Mules led 29-27 with 3:30 remaining to intermission, but used a 13-2 run to go up 42-29 at the break.
