Women's basketball struggles at Castleton
CASTLETON, Vt. -- University of Maine at Farmington was held to 23.4 percent shooting (11 of 47) from the field for the contest in falling to Castleton State College 65-44 in North Atlantic Conference women's basketball action today.
Castleton (8-6 overall,
4-1 in the NAC) raced out to a 34-23 halftime lead,
holding the Beavers to just 30.8 percent shooting from
the field, while shooting 48 percent on the offensive
end. The Spartans also canned 7 of 15 from beyond the
three-point arc to gain the early edge.
Caitlyn Laflin (Farmingdale, ME) scored 11 of her
game-high 16 points in the second half as Farmington
(6-8, 3-2) made an early run, trailing by single digits
early on in the final stanza. Castleton once again
turned up their defensive intensity and went on a late
run to push the lead back to double-digits to seal the
win. Erin Johnson (Bailey Island, ME) chipped in
10 points for 6-8 (3-2 NAC) Farmington.
Jessica Banks scored 13 points and dished out eight
assists to lead Castleton.Mary Nienow and Erinn O’Rourke
each added 11 points as the Spartans won for the seventh
time in eight games.
The Beavers will take on NAC foe Husson on Tuesday at
7:30 p.m. at Dearborn Gymnasium.
