Women’s basketball routs Bay Path
FARMINGTON -- Every participating University of Maine at Farmington player scored at least two points as the Beavers' women's basketball team rolled to a 70-28 victory over Bay Path College this afternoon in North Atlantic Conference action at Dearborn Gymnasium.
Farmington evened its record at 12-12 overall and 9-5 in the NAC. The Beavers await the announcement of the NAC postseason schedule tonight. The Wildcats finished their season at 2-23 (1-14)
Erin Porter (Bangor, ME) led the Beavers with 20 points, including four for four from beyond the arc, with Jillian Ross (Belfast, ME) chipping in 10 points and nine rebounds and Erin Johnson (Bailey Island, ME) snaring 11 boards. Farmington outrebounded the visitors 62-37. Johnson along with Brittany Davis (Saco, ME) and Meagan Dube (Lewiston, ME) were playing in their final regular season game at Dearborn Gymnasium. Dube added seven points and five boards and Davis scored four points.
Chrissy Ordyna (Great Barrington, MA) paced Bay Path with eight points and eight rebounds, but the Wildcats were hindered by abysmal shooting with a 15.4 percentage from the field (10 of 65), while the Beavers connected on 23 of 61 attempts (37.7 percent). Bay Path was also hurt when Jessica Hunt (Madison, CT) -- a double-digit average scorer and rebounder -- went down with an injury and did not return late in the opening half.
The game was tight early on with the Wildcats trailing by four with 8:52 left in the first half, but Farmington scored the final 10 points of the first half to carry a 35-19 advantage into intermission and continued its success into the second half with a 17-0 stretch. The Wildcats did not score in the second until there was 9:02 left and Kaitlin Begin (Weare, NH) knocked down a pair of foul shots. Bay Path was held without a field goal for a span of more than 17 minutes in between the two halves.
The Beavers continued to expand their lead and cruised to the 70-28 win.
