Kari Simpson Selected to
All State Basketball Team
UMF sophomore forward, Kari Simpson, has been selected to the Maine
Women's Basketball Coaches Association All State Team for the second
year. Simpson, a Wells High School graduate, led the Beavers in
five categories: points per game - 15, steals - 100, blocks -
31, rebounds per game - 6.2 and free throw percentage - 89.5%, which
is second in NCAA division III.

Simpson, Sirois Tabbed for
All Tourney and All Conference
UMF women's basketball players Kari Simpson and Karen Sirois were
selected to the NAC All Conference and All Tournament teams over the
weekend. Simpson, a sophomore from Wells, ME, averaged a team
high 15 points and 6.2 rebounds per game and 100 steals for the
Beavers. Sirois, also a sophomore, from Augusta, ME, averaged
10.4 points per game, handed out 135 assists and made 75 steals.
2/26/05
The UMF women's basketball team was defeated in this
afternoon's North Atlantic Conference championship game by Maine
Maritime Academy 56-65. This is the first conference
championship loss for the Beavers since 2000. UMF was led by
sophomore Kari Simpson with 15 points. Karen Sirois and Kate
LaHaye chipped in with 11 points each. UMF concludes the season
with a 21-7 record.
The UMF women's basketball team defeated Castleton
State 83-63 last night at Maine Maritime Academy. With the win,
the Beavers advance to their fourth conference championship game in as
many years. UMF was led by Kari Simpson with 18 points followed
by Karen Sirois with 14, Brandi Rideout with 13 and Kate LaHaye with
10. Today's championship game will be played at 2pm versus host
Maine Maritime Academy who won the other semifinal game last night
75-47 over Mount Ida College.

Women's
Basketball Defeats Husson, Advances to NAC Final Four
The UMF women's basketball team defeated visiting Husson College 78-74
in a hard fought battle for a slot in the North Atlantic Conference
final four. UMF held a slim four point margin at the half behind
the play of senior Kate LaHaye. In the second period the Beavers
opened up as much as a 13 point lead, but the Eagles battled back to
within one point with 3:24 remaining. Karen Sirois' free throw
shooting down the stretch kept UMF in lead and sealed the victory.
The Beavers were led by Kari Simpson with 22 points. Sirois
added 18 points, Brandi Rideout chipped in with 12 and LaHaye added
11. UMF will play Castleton State in the North Atlantic Conference final
four hosted by Maine Maritime Academy. Game time will be 7:30pm.

Women's Basketball Defeats
Johnson State
In the UMF senior's last home game of their careers the Beavers
defeated Johnson State 86-49. Senior Kate LaHaye led all scorers
with 18 points followed by classmate Sophia Stanley with 12.
Melissa Sawyer notched nine points and grabbed a team high 11 rebound.
Johnson State was led by Lily Thomas with 14 points and 11 rebounds.
The Beavers conclude regular season play in second place in the East
Division of the North Atlantic Conference and will face Husson College
on Tuesday at 6pm in the first round of the conference tournament.

Women's Basketball Defeats
Castleton State 69-55
UMF's Kari Simpson scored 19 points to lead the Beavers to another
conference win tonight over visiting Castleton State College 69-55.
Karen Sirois chipped in with 14 points. Melissa Sawyer led the
Beavers on the boards grabbing 10 rebounds. UMF will conclude
regular season play tomorrow when they host Johnson State College at
3pm.

Women's Basketball Defeats
Lasell 58-42
The UMF women's basketball team defeated Lasell College 58-42 last
night to improve to 17-6 overall and 13-2 in the NAC. The
Beavers were led by Kari Simpson with 14 points and a team high 8
rebounds. Kate LaHaye chipped in with 10 points.
Lasell was led by Courtney Casserly with 13 points and Mandi Rapisardi
with 11 points and 11 rebounds. The Beavers will close regular
season play this weekend when they host Castleton State College on
Friday at 7:30pm and Johnson State College on Saturday at 3pm.

Women's Basketball Defeats
Lasell 87-53
UMF's Kari Simpson scored 26 points to lead the Beavers to victory
over visiting Lasell College. Karen Sirois added 13 points and
Kate LaHaye chipped in with 12 for UMF. Lasell was led by Mandi
Rapisardi with 11 points. UMF returns to action on Wednesday
when they travel to Lasell for a rematch. UMF stands at 16-6
overall and 12-2 in the NAC.

The UMF women's basketball team defeated host Thomas
College 62-51 yesterday to improve to 11-1 in the North Atlantic
Conference and 15-5 overall. Leading UMF was Kate LaHaye with 15
points and a game high 9 rebounds. Kari Simpson chipped in with
13 points while Brandi Rideout and Melissa Sawyer added 10 points
each. The Beavers will return to
conference action on Wednesday when they travel to Maine Maritime
Academy for a 7:30pm match up.

Maine Co-Player of the Week
Sawyer takes the award after providing a well needed spark for the
Beavers of Farmington. She had 9 points 5 rebounds and 4 steals in a
big conference win over Maine Maritime. For the week she was in double
figures in scoring twice and averaged 11 points per game and close to
5 rebounds per game.
Women's Basketball Loses to
Husson 59-63
The UMF women's basketball six game winning streak came to an end last
night when the Beavers were defeated by host Husson College 59-63.
UMF was led by Melissa Sawyer with 16 points followed by Kari Simpson
with 15 and Megan Cyr with 12. Husson's Michelle Murray led the
Eagles with 19 points. UMF slips to 10-1 in the North Atlantic
Conference and 14-5 overall. The Beavers will return to action
on Saturday when the travel to Waterville to take on Thomas College at
3pm.

Women's Basketball Defeats
Lesley
The UMF women's basketball team defeated Lesley University 82-39
yesterday to improve to 14-4 overall and 10-0 in the North Atlantic
Conference. Every player on the roster scored for the Beavers,
led by Melissa Sawyer with 12 points and Karen Sirois with 11 points.
Erin Johnson and Kate LaHaye grabbed a game high eight rebounds each.
UMF will return to action on Wednesday when they travel to Husson
College for a 7:30 conference match up.

Women's Basketball Defeats
Maine Maritime, 9-0 in NAC
The UMF women's basketball team defeated previously 8-1 Maine Maritime
Academy last night 62-55 in Farmington. The Beavers took the
lead 7-5 at the 13 minute mark in the first half and never
relinquished that lead in spite of MMA threatening several times.
UMF held a 25-14 halftime lead, but MMA came back in the second half
to outscore the Beavers 41-37. UMF's 8 point halftime lead was
nearly erased by MMA when they cut it to one point at the 12:19 mark.
UMF managed to build an eight point lead, only to see MMA cut it to
one point again at the 7:15 mark. UMF played solid down the
stretch, increasing their lead to 12 with just over three minutes
remaining. MMA threatened again, but the Beavers hit 7 of 8 free
throws in the final minutes to seal the victory. UMF was led by
Kari Simpson with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Brandi Rideout added
14 points and Karen Sirois chipped in with 10 points and 8 assists.
UMF returns to action on Sunday when they travel to Lesley University
for a 1pm conference game. UMF stands at 9-0 in the North
Atlantic Conference and is 12-4 overall. MMA is 13-2 overall and
8-2 in the NAC.

Women's Basketball Defeats
Colby 55-39
The UMF women's basketball team held Colby to its second lowest score
this season holding the Mules to just 31 percent shooting from the
floor. With the win the Beavers improve to 12-4 overall and the
Mules slip to 5-11. UMF was led by Melissa Sawyer with 13 points
and Karen Sirois with 10 points. Kate LaHaye led the Beavers on
the boards with seven. Colby's Wendy Bonner was the only double
figure scorer and also grabbed 11 rebounds. Kathleen Nicholson
grabbed a game high 12 rebound for the Mules. UMF returns to
action on Thursday when they host Maine Maritime Academy at 5:30pm.

Women's Basketball Defeats
Mount Ida 68-46
The UMF women's basketball team defeated host Mount Ida College 68-46
Saturday to remain undefeated in North Atlantic Conference play and
improve to 10-4 overall (8-0 in NAC). UMF was led by Kari
Simpson with 22 points followed by Brandi Rideout with 12 points.
Simpson and Melissa Sawyer led the team in rebounds with seven each.
UMF will return to action on Tuesday night when they host Colby
College at 7pm.

Women's Basketball Defeats
Husson 71-54, 7-0 in NAC
The UMF women's basketball team, led by Karen Sirois' 22 points,
defeated visiting Husson College 71-54 tonight at Dearborn Gymnasium.
The win make the Beavers the only undefeated team in the NAC and
places them in first place in the east division of the North Atlantic
Conference. After holding a slim 31-28 halftime lead UMF came
out strong in the second period outscoring the Eagles 40-26.
Kari Simpson added 20 points for UMF while Kate LaHaye chipped in 11
points and 13 rebounds. Husson was led by Annie McIntosh with 16
points. UMF returns to action this weekend when they travel to
Mass. to take on Lasell College and Mount Ida College on Saturday and
Sunday. UMF is currently 10-4 overall. Husson slips to
6-7.

Women's Basketball Cruises
Past Lesley, 6-0 in NAC
The UMF women's basketball team led by senior Kate LaHaye's 18 points
defeated visiting Lesley University 92-41 today in Farmington.
Other double figure scorers for the Beavers were Melissa Sawyer with
14, Brandi Rideout with 13, Desirae Haines with 12 and Karen Sirois
with 10. Kari Simpson chipped in with game high six steals and
seven rebounds. The Beavers improve to 6-0 in North Atlantic
Conference play and will return to action on Wednesday when they host
rival Husson College at 5:30pm.

Women's Basketball Loses to
Plymouth State 77-83
The Beavers were led by Kate LaHaye with 21 points, Brandi Rideout and
Karen Sirois chipped in with 11 each.
Both teams return to action on Saturday when the women face Lesley
University at 1pm and the men take on St. Joseph's College (ME) at
3pm. Both games will be played at Dearborn Gymnasium.

Women's Basketball Loses to
#9 Bates
Last night the UMF women's basketball team faced the third nationally
ranked opponent this season in #9 ranked Bates College. The
Beavers played Southern Maine when they were ranked #2 and Bowdoin
when they were ranked #1. In last night's contest, UMF found
themselves outmatched by the balanced Bobcat attack. In the
second period, the Beavers were unable to overcome a 28-43 halftime
deficit in spite of the 31-31 second half score. UMF was led by
Kari Simpson's 19 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists. Kate LaHaye
grabbed a team high seven rebounds in the effort. UMF returns to
action on Thursday when they travel to Plymouth State College for a
5:30 tip off. The Beavers stand at 8-3 overall and are 5-0 in
NAC play.

Women's Basketball Defeats
Elms and Becker to Improve to 5-0 in NAC Play
The UMF women's basketball team defeated Elms College 73-40 on
Saturday and Becker College 76-45 on Sunday. The Beavers were
led by sophomores Karen Sirois and Kari Simpson. Sirois netted
14 points versus Elms and 19 points versus Becker. Simpson
recorded a double double versus Elms with 14 points and 11 rebounds
and added 15 points versus Becker. UMF improves to 5-0 in North
Atlantic Conference play and will return to action on Tuesday when the
travel to Lewiston to take on the third nationally ranked team on
their schedule, Bates College at 5:30pm.

Women's Basketball Loses
Battle to Bowdoin 52-62
The UMF women's basketball team battled an undefeated Bowdoin team to
a 52-62 loss tonight in Farmington. The Beavers rebounded from a
28-40 half time deficit on a 15-8 run but were never able to get
closer than five points. UMF's Kari Simpson led the effort with
22 points, going 6-6 from the line. Kate LaHaye chipped in with
11 points. Desirae Haines grabbed a team high seven rebounds for
UMF. Karen Sirois had 9 points including 6-6 from the
line. Bowdoin, ranked number one in the nation in the
latest D3Hoops.com poll, was led by Eileen Flaherty with 16 points,
including going 6-7 from the line. UMF returns to North Atlantic
Conference action this weekend when they travel to Elms College on
Saturday and Becker College on Sunday. The Beavers slip to 6-2
overall, Bowdoin improves to 10-0.

Women's Basketball Defeats
UNE 62-43
UMF's Kari Simpson led the Beavers to another win today in Farmington
when they defeated visiting University of New England 62-43.
Simpson scored a team high 12 points, handed out four assists, made
six steals and grabbed seven rebounds to lift UMF to victory.
Danielle Mayer scored 11 in the effort. Senior captain Kate
LaHaye grabbed a game high nine rebounds. UNE was led by Essie
McKinnon with 13 points. UMF will return to action after the
Christmas break when they host NCAA number one ranked Bowdoin College
on Thursday January 6th at 7pm.

D3Hoops.com Team of the Week
UMF sophomore forward, Kari Simpson (Wells, ME) has been selected to
the D3Hoops.com Team of the Week for the week of November 29th -
December 5th. Simpson averaged 17.3 minutes with the Beavers in
their 3-0 week while knocking down 15.3 points, 6.3 rebounds, and 3
steals in victories over Thomas, Bay Path, and Wheelock.

Women's Basketball Defeats
Wheelock, 3-0 in NAC
For the second game in a row every UMF women's basketball player
scored as the Beavers defeated visiting Wheelock College 80-32 today
in Farmington. UMF was led by sophomores Danielle Mayer with 12 points. Simpson and Megan Cyr grabbed
each grabbed seven rebounds. Wheelock was led by Amy Ross with
17 points and Sarah Cummings with 13 points. UMF returns to
action on Tuesday when they travel to Bates College.

Women's Basketball Defeats
Bay Path
Every player on the UMF women's basketball roster scored in today's
North Atlantic Conference contest with Bay Path College. UMF's
83-43 victory was paced by Kari Simpson with 12 points and Meagan Cyr
and Erin Johnson with 10 points each. Melissa Sawyer grabbed a
game high 10 rebounds in the effort. Bay Path was led by Heidi
Lara with 16 points. UMF returns to action tomorrow when they
host Wheelock College at 12pm.

Women's Basketball Opens
Conference With Victory
The UMF women's basketball team opened North Atlantic Conference play
tonight with a convincing 79-41 victory over visiting Thomas College.
UMF sophomore Kari Simpson scored a game high 23 points and grabbed 8
rebounds to lead the Beavers. Meagan Cyr chipped in with 13
points and Melissa Sawyer added 12. Thomas was led by Samantha
Davis with 9 points. UMF returns to action on Saturday when they
host conference opponent Bay Path College and then Wheelock College on
Sunday. UMF stands at 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the NAC.

Women's Basketball Defeats St. Joseph's 64-48
Kari Simpson led all scorers with 21 points and 8 steals to lift
visiting UMF past St. Joseph's College. Senior captain Kate
LaHaye chipped in with 11 points and 8 rebounds. The Beaver
defense forced 29 Monk turnovers, 21 of those were steals. UMF
improves to 2-1 overall and will begin conference play on Wednesday
when they host rival Thomas College at 5:30pm.

Women's Basketball -
Runner's Up at USM Tournament
UMF's Kari Simpson and Karen Sirois were selected to the all
tournament team at the Southern Maine tip off tournament today.
Simpson netted 10 points while Sirois chipped in 12 in the
championship game versus Southern Maine. UMF lost the game
44-68. UMF stands at 1-1 overall and will travel to St. Joseph's
College on Tuesday for a non-conference match up in Standish.
Women's Basketball Defeats
Clarkson in USM Tip Off Tournament
The UMF women's basketball team defeated Clarkson 64-41 last night in
the USM tip off tournament in Gorham, ME. UMF's Kari Simpson led
all scorers with 20 points, 9 rebounds and 7 steals. Karen
Sirois chipped in with 15 points while grabbing 4 steals. UMF
held a 27-16 advantage in the first half on 44% shooting from the
floor. The Beavers return to action today in the championship
game versus NCAA #2 Southern Maine who defeated Husson College in the
opening round of the tournament.
