GORHAM -- Jenna Rowan (Kittery, ME) had a match-high 13 kills and a team nine-digs to lead the University of Maine at Farmington to a 3-1 win over the University of Southern Maine Huskies in non-conference women’s volleyball action tonight at Hill Gymnasium.
Southern Maine (0-4) won the first game of the match 25-16, but then the Beavers (1-4) took the next three games 25-20, 25-14 and 25-15 for the win. Farmington is scheduled to host Unity College Thursday at 7 p.m.
Rowan paced the Beavers with a solid .434 hitting percentage with 13 kills on 23 attempts and three errors. Shannon Mitchell (Portsmouth, NH) tossed in nine kills. The Beavers were able to record 17 service aces in the match, led by an outstanding six aces from senior outside hitter Caitlin Flaherty (Plymouth, MA). Mitchell and Katie Allen (Bucksport, ME) each had four aces. Allen also had a team-high 12 assists. Defensively, Amanda Mullane (Melrose, MA) recorded five solo blocks.
Southern Maine's Danielle Netland (Cumberland, ME) led the Huskies offensively with nine kills, eight digs and one ace. Shannon Shuttle (New Ipswich, NH) added seven kills, a match-high 13 digs and one ace. Laurie Boulay (Biddeford, ME) had a match high 19 assists.
