Women's volleyball wins two

FARMINGTON -- The University of Maine at Farmington women's volleyball defeated Thomas 3-0 (25-13, 25-17, 25-17) and Massachusetts Maritime Academy 3-0 (25-6, 25-11, 25-15) at the UMF Invitational today.

Other matches Saturday featured Worcester State College downing Thomas 3-0 (25-12, 25-9, 25-8) and Mass. Maritime 3-0 (25-6, 25-6, 25-6).

Caitlin Flaherty (Pembroke, MA) was named to the All-Tournament Team for her performance over the two-day event. Flaherty was joined on the team by Worcester's Lauren Saylor, Thomas' Kristalynn Kidd and MMA's Alison Condino.

Flaherty recorded 12 service aces in the Beavers' win over Mass. Maritime with Shannon Mitchell (Portsmouth, NH) scoring seven kills. Against Thomas, Danielle O'Brien (Calais, ME) notched 10 kills with six digs and Mitchell added seven service aces.

Farmington is scheduled to return to action Wednesday when it is scheduled to host Unity.
