Women's volleyball splits at invitational

WATERVILLE -- The University of Maine at Farmington women's volleyball team earned its first win of the season with a 3-2 victory (25-19, 25-23, 14-25, 17-25, 16-14) over Husson University, but fell to Maine Maritime Academy 3-1 (22-25, 25-21, 25-15, 25-12) at the Colby Invitational today.

Danielle O'Brien (Calais, ME) was named to the all-tournament team for the Beavers (1-3). O'Brien powered the Beavers in the win with 13 kills, eight digs, two blocks and two service aces and collected 11 kills, two blocks and two service aces against MMA.

Versus Husson, Shannon Mitchell (Portsmouth, NH) contributed nine kills, 18 digs and five aces, while Jenna Rowan (Kittery, ME) pitched in nine kills, 22 digs and four aces, Katie Allen (Bucksport, ME) made 37 assists with five digs and Lindsay Hansen (Gorham, ME) added seven kills and 10 digs.

Versus MMA, Rowan added five kills, 11 digs and four aces, Hansen supplied five kills and three aces and Mitchell had five kills, three aces and a pair of blocks.

Farmington is scheduled to visit Unity College on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. match.
