UMF, UMM 3-1 at UMF Invitational

FARMINGTON -- The University of Maine at Farmington and the University of Maine at Machias each went 3-1 at the UMF Invitational women's volleyball tournament held over Friday and Saturday at Dearborn Gymnasium.

In Saturday's action, the Beavers earned wins over Salem State 3-2 (30-32, 30-24, 24-30, 30-25, 15-12) and UMaine-Presque Isle 3-1 (18-30, 30-19, 30-27), while falling to Husson 3-2 (20-30, 30-24, 30-19, 27-30, 17-15). Other matches included UMaine-Machias over Salem State 3-1 (30-25, 30-23, 25-30, 30-21), UMaine-Presque Isle over Husson 3-2 (30-20, 23-30, 28-30, 31-29, 15-11) and UMaine-Machias over Husson 3-0 (30-12, 30-14, 30-24). Action opened on Friday.

Against Husson, Meagan Dube (Lewiston, ME) notched 14 kills with Danielle O'Brien (Calais, ME) chipping in 11 kills and 10 digs. Amy Boardman (York, ME) led the team with 25 digs, while Jessica Whittaker (Calais, ME) made 14 digs. Katie Allen (Bucksport, ME) and Caitlin Flaherty (Pembroke, MA) dished out 16 and 15 assists, respectively.

Against Salem State, O'Brien had a monster game with 18 kills and 27 digs with Dube providing 14 kills and 10 digs, Boardman 22 digs, Flaherty 22 assists and Allen 17 assists and 10 digs.

Against UMPI, O'Brien smacked 14 kills with 12 digs. Boardman (14), Allen (12), Whittaker (11) and Flaherty (10) each got into double figures in digs with Allen and Flaherty each registering 11 assists.
