Sara Haney
Appointed Volleyball Coach
The University of Maine at
Farmington has named Sara Haney as its head coach for women’s
volleyball beginning in fall 2007.
Haney enters her first season as
the UMF women’s head volleyball coach in fall 2007. Haney has been a
volunteer assistant coach during the two previous seasons, and is
excited to continue to grow the volleyball program at UMF.
Coach Haney earned her
bachelor’s degree in physical education with a concentration in sports
medicine at the University of Maine. She began her volleyball career at
the Division 1 level, playing for the first women’s varsity volleyball
program at the University of Maine since 1983. She currently
participates in indoor and outdoor volleyball tournaments and leagues
throughout the state of Maine, and is a member of the Maine State
Volleyball Association.
Haney’s volleyball coaching
experiences, beyond those at UMF, consist of head volleyball coach at
Bucksport High School, coaching at Nike volleyball camps, and coaching
with the Highlanders Junior Olympic Volleyball program. She has also
been an assistant varsity coach at the highly successful, girls’ soccer,
and softball programs, as well as the boys’ basketball program at George
Stevens Academy, located in Blue Hill, Maine.
Haney currently lives in Peru,
Maine, and is sales manager in the Conference Sales Department at Sunday
River Resort.

Volleyball Trio Earns NAC Honors
Three members of the UMF volleyball team – Jenna Rowan
(Kittery, ME), Jenna St. Pierre (Peru, ME) and Meagan Dube
(Calais, ME) – were named to the 2006 All-NAC Second Team.
Rowan, in her first season of collegiate competition, led the
Beavers with 188 kills and 155 disg, posting a .137 hitting percentage.
She was third on the team in kills with 45 and added 18 blocks. She had
10 or more kills in a match eight different times, including a
season-high 13 on two occasions.
St.
Pierre had 19 kills in 30 attempts for a team-best .567 hitting
percentage, and led the team with 551 assists (6.48/game), among the top
marks in the conference. She added 46 aces, second best on the team,
and 66 digs. She reached double-figures in assists in all but three
matches this season, including a season-high 39 at Lesley in the opening
round of the NAC Tournament.
Dube finished the season with 120 kills, posting a .197
hitting percentage. She added 25 aces, 19 assists and 19 blocks,
totaling a season-high 14 kills at Southern Maine on Oct. 16.

UMF Volleyball Falls to Mt. Ida in NAC
Semifinals
The
UMF volleyball team (17-9) was eliminated from the NAC Volleyball
Tournament, 3-0 (13-30, 21-30, 10-30) in the semifinal round by
top-seeded Mt. Ida. Senior Jenna St. Pierre (Peru, Maine), UMF’s
lone representative to the All-Tournament team, tallied eight assists,
while senior Sheanna White (Biddeford, Maine) led Maine
Farmington with five kills. Junior Natalie Angers (Biddeford, Maine)
recorded six digs for the Beavers.

UMF Volleyball Advances to NAC Semifinals
with Thrilling Win at Lesley
Less
than a week after losing to Lesley in five games – a match which
provided Lesley the fourth seed and a home contest in the NAC Tournament
– the UMF volleyball team turned the tables when it mattered most,
capturing a 3-2 victory (21-30, 30-20, 22-30, 32-30, 15-13) in the
quarterfinals of the NAC Volleyball Tournament last night in Cambridge,
MA. The Beavers fell behind, 2-1, but rallied to capture the final two
games by narrow, two-point margins.
Junior Megan Dube (Lewiston, ME) led all players with 13 kills,
while Becky Hall (Goffstown, NH) and Jenna Rowan (Kittery, ME)
added 12 each and Danielle O’Brien (Calais, ME) chipped in with
eight. Jenna St. Pierre (Peru, ME) continued her steady play in
the middle, collecting 39 assists, while Natalie Angers (Biddeford,
ME) and Caitlin Flaherty (Pembroke, MA) added 16 and 13 digs,
respectively.
UMF
will now travel to four-time defending NAC Champion Mt. Ida this
Saturday for semifinal and finals action. The Beavers will face Mt. Ida
in the semifinals, seeking to rebound from a 3-0, regular season loss on
Oct. 21.

Volleyball Splits Home Matches To End
Regular Season
The
UMF volleyball team concluded its regular season schedule today with a
pair of home, conference matches. After defeating Bay Path, 3-0 (30-14,
30-14, 30-17), the Beavers fell behind Lesley early before losing in
five games, 3-2 (29-31, 23-30, 30-25, 30-20, 12-15). UMF is now 16-8
overall and 6-4 in NAC play.
In
the win over Bay Path, Danielle O’Brien (Calais, ME) hit at a
1.000 clip, collecting a match-high 10 kills in 10 attempts. Jenna
Rowan (Kittery, ME) added eight kills, while Jenna St. Pierre
(Peru, ME) chipped in with 21 assists. In the second match of the
day, Rowan led the way with 13 kills, while O’Brien tallied seven in
just 11 attempts. St. Pierre recorded a season-high 26 assists and
Trisha Dickson (West Springfield, MA) added six service aces.

Hall, Rowan Lead UMF Volleyball to 3-1
Win over St. Joe’s
Becky Hall (Goffstown, NH) and Jenna Rowan (Kittery, ME)
combined for 17 kills to lead the UMF volleyball team (15-7) to a 3-1
win over St. Joe’s on Wednesday night in Farmington. The Beavers took
the first game, 30-20, and after slipping in game two (19-30), won two
straight (30-27, 30-18) to secure the victory. Danielle O’Brien
(Calais, ME) added five kills while Jenna St. Pierre (Peru, ME)
chipped in with a match-high 21 assists.

Volleyball Drops a Pair at Thomas College
The
UMF volleyball team dropped a pair of NAC matches at Thomas College on
Saturday, falling to Lasell, 3-1 (16-30, 30-18, 22-30, 19-30) and Mt.
Ida, 3-0 (23-30, 25-30, 23-30). The Beavers fall to 14-7 overall and
5-3 in league play with the pair of setbacks.
Jenna Rowan (Kittery, ME)
led the Beavers with 11 kills and three service aces against
Lasell, while Becky Hall (Goffstown, NH) and Megan Dube
(Lewiston, ME) added eight. Jenna St. Pierre (Peru, ME)
added 29 assists. Rowan and Dube led Farmington with five kills vs. Mt.
Ida, while St. Pierre added 16 assists.

UMF
Volleyball Returns to Winning Ways With 3-2 Victory at USM
The UMF
volleyball team held off a furious rally by the University of Southern
Maine in the fifth and deciding game to escape with a 3-2 victory in a
non-conference volleyball match Thursday night at the Warren Hill
Gymnasium. Game scores were 30-17, 24-30, 30-24, 29-31, and 16-14. The
win snapped a two-match losing skid as the Beavers improved to 14-5
overall on the season. The Huskies dropped their third straight to fall
to 6-18 overall.
After
Southern Maine rallied to take the fourth game 31-29, UMF jumped out to
an early 10-2 lead in the fifth and final games. The Beavers were
within one point (14-8) of taking the match before the Huskies won six
straight points to pull into a 14-14 tie. The Beavers then took the
next two points to take the victory.
Junior
Meagan Dube (Lewiston, ME) and senior Becky Hall
(Goffstown, N.H.) led the Beavers offense with 14 and 11 kills,
respectively. Senior setter Jenna St. Pierre (Peru, ME)
quarterbacked the offense, passing out 36 assists. Sophomore
Danielle O'Brien (Calais, ME) chipped in five service aces.

Volleyball Shut Out by
UNE, Keene State
Despite seven kills from Becky Hall (Goffstown, NH) and 15
assists and four aces from Jenna St. Pierre (Peru, ME), the UMF
volleyball team lost to the University of New England, 3-0 (30-25,
30-17, 30-26), this morning in Biddeford. UNE’s Claire Varner had a
match-high 11 kills to lead the winning effort. In its afternoon
match vs. Keene State, the Beavers lost in three-straight again (30-11,
30-17, 30-12), with Jenna Rowan (Kittery, ME)
tallying a team-high six kills and St. Pierre adding 14 assists.

Volleyball Sweeps Unity, 3-0
The
UMF volleyball team swept Unity (30-15, 30-15, 30-25) on Wednesday night
in Unity, improving its record to 13-3. Senior Becky Hall
(Goffstown, NH) led a strong all-around effort with a match-high six
kills and 11 service aces. Sheanna White (Biddeford, ME) also
finished the night with six kills, while Jenna Rowan (Kittery, ME)
contributed three kills and five aces. Courtney Leblanc (Falmouth,
MA) finished with a match-high 17 assists.

Volleyball Falls to Worcester in Finals of UMF Invitational
After defeating
UMaine-Presque Isle, 3-0, in the second round of action, the UMF
women’s volleyball team fell to Worcester State, 3-1, in the finals
to take second place in the eight-team tournament.

Volleyball Sweeps
Southern
Maine at UMF Invitational
Behind a 15-kill effort from Danielle O’Brien (Calais, ME), the
UMF volleyball team (11-2) defeated Southern Maine, 3-0 (30-26, 30-28,
30-21), tonight in the opening round of the UMF Invitational at Deaborn
Gymnasium. The win extended the Beavers’ winning streak to seven in a
row.
UMF
received a strong team performance vs. the Huskies, with six different
players registering at least three kills in the victory. Jenna Rowan
(Kittery, ME) was second on the team with five, also adding three
digs and three service aces, while Jenna St. Pierre (Peru, ME)
tallied a match-high 19 assists.
The
Beavers advance to play UMPI in one of the winners’ bracket contests
tomorrow at 11:00 am. Friday night results and Saturday morning
matchups are listed below.

UMF Volleyball Keeps Rolling with 3-0 Win
over Castleton State
Jenna Rowan (Kittery, ME) had a match-high nine kills, despite
playing just two games, and Becky Hall (Goffstown, NH) and
Natalie Angers (Biddeford, ME) each added seven kills to lead the
UMF volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-14, 30-15, 30-24) win over Castleton
State in NAC volleyball action at Thomas College. The Beavers (10-2,
5-1) have not lost a game in their last four matches.
In
addition to her team-high nine kills, Rowan added two service aces,
while Hall paced the team with four. Jenna St. Pierre (Peru, ME)
contributed 22 assists and two digs to the victory.

UMF Volleyball Improves to 9-2 With 3-1
Win At St. Joe’s
Strong net play from freshman Jenna Rowan (Kittery, ME) and
sophomore Danielle O’Brien (Calais, ME) led the UMF volleyball
team (9-2) to a 3-1 (30-13, 30-20, 20-30, 30-20) win over Saint Joseph’s
College on Wednesday night in Standish. The win was UMF’s fourth in a
row entering this weekend’s NAC contest vs. Castleton State at Thomas
College on Saturday at 10:00 am.

UMF Volleyball Sweeps Becker and Elms By
3-0 Scores
Becky Hall (Goffstown, NH)
had 11 kills and Jenna St. Pierre (Peru, ME) tallied assists to
lead the UMF volleyball team to a 3-0 (30-20, 30-20, 30-21) win over
Becker, while Sheanna White (Biddeford, ME) and Jenna Rowan
(Kittery, ME) combined for 23 kills in the Beavers’ 3-0 (30-13,
30-21, 30-11) win over Elms to complete a NAC sweep this afternoon in
Farmington. UMF is now 8-2 overall and 4-1 in NAC play.

UMF Volleyball Sweeps Thomas, 3-0
The
UMF volleyball team made quick work of Thomas College in tonight’s NAC
contest at Deaborn Gymnasium, sweeping the Terriers, 3-0 (30-10, 30-15,
30-12). With the win, the Beavers improve to 6-2 overall and 3-1 in
conference action.
Danielle O’Brien (Calais, ME) led the way with eight kills, while Meghan Dube
(Lewiston, ME) added five in the Beavers’ well-balanced attack.
Courtney Leblanc (Falmouth, MA) added a team-high 13 assists, while
Dube and Jenna Rowan (Kittery, ME) contributed five aces apiece.
The
Beavers return to action Saturday, with a pair of NAC contests vs. Elms
and Becker at Dearborn Gymnasium beginning at 10:00 a.m

Volleyball Splits A
Pair of NAC Contests to Open Conference Action
The
UMF volleyball team (5-2, 1-1 NAC) defeated Husson College, 3-1, and
fell to Maine Maritime, 3-1, on Saturday in Castine to open conference
action this season. The Beavers bested the Braves (30-17, 28-30, 30-13,
30-24) but came up short against MMA (30-27, 18-30, 21-30, 29-32) after
winning the opening game.
In
its win over Husson, Jenna Rowan (Kittery, ME) led the way with
eight kills and 17 digs, while Meagan Dube (Lewiston, ME) and
Becky Hall (Goffstown, NH) added seven and six kills, respectively.
Trish Dickson (West Springfield, MA) posted a strong all-around
effort with seven kills, eight digs and three services aces. Against
MMA, Rowan, Hall and Danielle O’Brien (Calais, ME) each tallied a
team-high seven kills.

Volleyball Continues
Strong Start with 3-1 Win over Unity
The
UMF volleyball team received 11 kills from Megan Dube (Lewiston, ME)
and 10 each from Sheanna White (Biddeford, ME) and Danielle
O’Brien (Calais, ME) on its way to a 3-1 win over Unity tonight at
Dearborn Gymnasium. The Beavers (4-1) opened with a 30-7 win in the
first game and used 30-16 victories in games two and four to seal the
win.
Freshman Courtney Leblance (Falmouth, MA) led the Beavers with 25
digs, while Jenna St. Pierre (Peru, ME) added 12. O’Brien added
a match-high five service aces.

UMF Newcomers Make Their Mark Quickly
With NAC Weekly Honors
A
pair of newcomers – volleyball’s Jenna Rowan (Kittery, ME) and
cross country’s Emily Farley (Mount Desert Island, ME) – had an
immediate impact on their team’s season-opening performances and have
been honored by the North Atlantic Conference with Rookie of the Week
laurels in their respective sports.
Rowan made
an impressive debut this past week, tallying 29 kills in a 3-1 week for
the Beavers. She opened the week with a match-high 11 kills in a win
over Husson and, after playing sparingly against Maine-Machias, she
added 11 more in a win over Maine Maritime at the Colby Invitational.
She also contributed four aces and a team-high 34 digs during the week.
Farley,
inher first collegiate race, finished fourth overall to lead the UMF
women’s cross country team to a fourth-place finish at the
season-opening UNE Invitational in Biddeford on Saturday. Farley posted
a time of 21:48 over the 5000m course, just :40 off the winning pace and
was three minutes faster than the next UMF finisher.

Volleyball Cruises to 3-0 Start with Pair of Wins at Colby Invite; Falls
to Mules in Final Match
The UMF volleyball team
captured a pair of 3-0 victories to open play at the 2006 Colby
Invitational in Waterville, ME. The Beavers defeated UMaine-Machias
(30-20, 30-23, 30-28) on Friday night and upended Maine Maritime (30-26,
30-28, 30-27) on Saturday morning.
Sheanna White (Biddeford, ME) led the way with 17 kills and a
.367 hitting percentage in the two contests, while
Becky Hall (Goffstown, NH)
and Jenna Rowan (Kittery, ME)
added 14 and 13 kills, respectively, and
Jenna St. Pierre (Peru, ME)
contributed 39 assists, including 31 in the Beavers’ win over Maine
Maritime. UMF also utlitized 28 service aces in the two matches, led by
Trisha Dickson (West Springfield, MA),
who had nine.
UMF ended its weekend
with a 3-0 loss to host Colby (30-16, 30-17, 30-11). St. Pierre was
named to the Colby Invitational All-Tournament team.
The Beavers close out
the weekend with a 3pm match vs. Colby.

Volleyball Opens Season With Thrilling,
Five-Game Victory over Husson
The
UMF women’s volleyball team rallied to defeat Husson College, 3-2,
tonight in the Beavers’ season-opener at Dearborn Gymnasium. After
splitting the first two games, UMF captured a 16-14 win in the decisive
fifth match. Becky Hall (Goffstown, NH) and freshman Jenna
Rowan (Kittery, ME) combined for 21 kills to lead the Beavers, while
Jenna St. Pierre (Peru, ME) added a match-high 18 digs.
The
Beavers return to action at 6:30 pm on Friday at the Colby Invitational
in Waterville.

UMF
Volleyball Picked Fourth in Preseason Coaches Poll
The
UMF volleyball team has been picked to finish fourth in the 2006 North
Atlantic Conference (NAC) standings, as voted in a preseason poll among
league head coaches. The Beavers finished 18-10 overall in 2005,
including a 6-4 league mark, and return senior setter Jenna St.
Pierre (Peru, ME) and sophomore Katie O’Connell (Northwood, NH),
among the league leaders in digs and kills, respectively, in 2005, as
they begin their season on Wednesday, September 6 with a home game vs.
Husson (7pm).
Mount Ida, Lasell and Husson – which finished 1-2-3 in last season’s
standings – were picked in the same order for 2006.
