UMF
Volleyball Falls to Maine Maritime, 3-2, in NAC Quarterfinals
The UMF
volleyball team fell to Maine Maritime, 3-2, this evening in NAC
quarterfinal volleyball action in Castine. The Beavers
won the opening game, 30-25, but dropped the next two (30-20, 30-13)
before rallying for a 30-22 win in the fourth games. MMA then
advanced with a 15-9 win in the fifth and deciding game.
Katie O'Connell (Northwood, NH),
Sheanna White (Biddeford, ME)
and Meaghan Dube (Lewiston, ME)
led the Beavers (18-10) with nine kills apiece, while Jenna
St. Pierre (Peru, ME) paced the squad
with 16 assists, while O'Connell added 11.

UMF Volleyball Earns
Fifth Seed in NAC Tournament, Headed to Maine Maritime for Opening Round
With a 6-4 league mark, the UMF women’s volleyball team (18-9 overall)
earned the fifth seed and will travel to fourth-seeded Maine Maritime
for an opening round NAC Tournament contest on Wednesday, November 2
(game time 7 pm). The Beavers have dropped two contests to MMA this
season, falling 3-2 on Oct. 14 in Castine and 3-1 on Oct. 22 in
Farmington.

Volleyball Tunes Up
for Postseason by Shutting Out Elms, Becker
The UMF
volleyball team made quick work of Thomas and Elms, shutting out both
opponents, 3-0, to close the regular season. The Beavers knocked off
Elms (30-14, 30-18, 30-18) to open the day and then shut down Becker
(30-28, 30-17, 30-27) to finish off the sweep. In the opener vs.
Becker, Trisha Dixon led the way with nine kills, while Sheanna White
added eight as the Beavers combined for 18 services aces, led by seven
from Jenna St. Pierre. In the nightcap, Katie O’Connell led with nine
kills, while White added seven. St. Pierre posted 31 combined assists,
including 18 in the opener. The Beavers finish the regular season 18-9
overall and 6-4 in NAC action and await their first round NAC opponent
and location.

UMF Volleyball Drops a Pair
The UMF
volleyball team suffered a pair of 3-1 losses today in NAC action at
Dearborn Gymnasium, falling to Maine Maritime and Husson. The Beavers
dropped the opener (25-30, 39-21, 30-28, 26-30) to UMM and then fell to
Husson in the nightcap (14-30, 30-27, 19-30, 27-30). Sheanna White led
the Beavers in the opener, hitting at .562 percent with a team-high 12
kills and just three errors in 16 attempts, while Becky Hall and Katie
O’Connell added 10 kills each. In the second match, Natalie Angers led
UMF with nine kills. The Beavers are now 16-9 this season and 4-4 in
NAC action.

UMF Women's
Volleyball Edges Southern Maine, 3-2
After dropping the
opening game, the UMF women's volleyball team (16-7) rebounded to defeat
Southern Maine in five games tonight at Dearborn Gymnasium, 3-2, with a
15-11 win in the fifth and deciding game. The Beavers were led by
Jill Ekstedt, who registered eight service aces, and the quartet of
Becky Hall, Katie O'Connell, Sheanna White and Natalie Angers, each of
whom reached double-digits in kills. Jenna St. Pierre produced
another strong effort, registering 39 assists for the Beavers.

UMF Sweeps Unity, 3-0
Using a balanced attack that produced four players
with five or more kills, the UMF volleyball team swept Unity (30-14,
30-18, 30-24) on the road last night. Katie O'Connell led the
Beavers with seven kills in 11 attempts, while Jenna St. Pierre
contributed a match-high 32 assists. The Beavers (15-7) have
now won 10 of their last 11 matches.

Volleyball Goes 2-1 at
UMaine-Machias Homecoming Invitational
After falling, 3-2, in a five-set thriller on
Friday night to Maine Maritime, the UMF women's volleyball team
rebounded for a pair of 3-0 wins to close out play at the
UMaine-Machias Homecoming Invitational on Saturday afternoon.
The Beavers upended Unity in the opener (30-17, 30-16, 30-9) and
UMaine-Machias (30-22, 30-14, 30-15) in their final match to run
their record to 14-7 this season.

Volleyball Edges St. Joseph's in
Five Games
For the second time in five days, the UMF
volleyball team defeated St. Joseph's College, this time needing five
games to record the victory. The Beavers opened with a 30-17 win
in game one and took a 2-0 lead with a 30-23 score in game two, but
the Monks ralled back to capture the next two games. UMF sealed
the win with a 15-11 score in the fifth and final game. The
Beavers (12-6) have now won seven in a row.

Volleyball Sweeps
Through UMF Invite
The UMF volleyball team (11-6) enjoyed
a successful weekend at its own tournament, sweeping four matches during
the UMF Invitational at Dearborn Gymnasium on Oct. 7-8. The Beavers
opened play with a 3-1 victory over Southern Maine (30-13, 30-11, 28-30,
30-18) and followed with a 3-1 win over UMaine-Presque Isle (30-18, 30-22,
26-30, 30-21). On Saturday, the Beavers outlasted Salem State in an
exciting match (28-30, 30-24, 31-29, 30-28), rallying after dropping the
opening game. They then closed out competition with a three-game win over
St. Joe's (30-15, 30-25, 31-29). Meagan Dube led UMF with 33 kills, while
Katie O'Connell and Becky Hall chipped in with 30 and 29, respectively.
Jenna St. Pierre also enjoyed a strong weekend, chipping in with 112
assists and a team-high 12 service aces and was named to the
All-Tournament team for her efforts.

Volleyball Defeats St.
Joseph's 3-0
The UMF volleyball team defeated visiting St. Joseph's College 3-0
tonight in Farmington. After the Beavers breezed through the
first two games of the match (30-20, 30-19), St. .Joe's battled to a
small lead in game three, but the Beavers came back to take the game
30-27. Becky Hall led the offense with a team high 9 kills and
Jill Ekstedt anchored the defense with 13 digs. UMF improves to
6-6 overall and will return to action on Saturday when they take on
their Alumnae at 1pm.

Volleyball Goes 2-1 Over
Weekend
The UMF volleyball team defeated NAC opponents Lesley University and
Bay Path College on Saturday and lost a 5 game match to the University
of New England on Sunday to end the weekend 2-1. Megan Dube led
the offense with 26 kills on the weekend. Jill Ekstedt anchored
the defense with 18 digs. UMF stands at 5-6 overall and improves
to 3-2 in the North Atlantic Conference. The Beavers return to
action on Wednesday when they host St. Joseph's College at 7pm.

Volleyball Defeats Unity
3-0
The UMF volleyball team defeated Unity College 3-0 tonight in
Farmington. The UMF offense was led by Sheanna White who had a
team high seven kills. Natalie Angers chipped in with 10 service
aces. UMF improves to 3-5 overall and will return to action on
Saturday when they travel to Lesley University to play Lesley and Bay
Path for two important conference matches.

Volleyball Loses Two at
Mount Ida
The UMF volleyball team dropped two conference matches to Mount Ida
and Lasell College on Saturday. The Beavers were led by Megan
Dube with 11 kills on the day. UMF stands at 2-5 overall and 1-2
in the NAC. The Beavers return to action on Tuesday night versus
Unity College at 7pm in Farmington.

Volleyball Defeats Thomas
3-0
The UMF volleyball team earned its first conference win of the season
last night when they defeated Thomas College 3-0 (30-22, 30-12, 30-21)
in Waterville. The Beavers were led by Sheanna White and Becky
Hall who each had seven kills in the match. UMF's proficient
serving continued as the Beaver notched 24 service aces in three
games. UMF stands at 2-3 overall and 1-0 in the NAC. The
Beavers return to action on Saturday when they travel to Mount Ida
College for two important North Atlantic Conference matches with Mount
Ida and Lasell College at 10am and 1pm respectively.

Volleyball Goes 1-2 at
Colby Invitational
The UMF volleyball team breezed past UMaine Machias in their first
match of the Colby College Invitational on Friday night winning 3-0
(30-6, 30-7, 30-12). The Beavers were led by Jenna St. Pierre
who had 11 service aces. UMF notched 36 service aces overall in
the match. Freshman Katie O'Connell led the offense with five
kills. Versus Gordon in match number two, senior Jill Ekstedt
recorded 10 kills in the Beavers losing effort. Junior Becky
Hall and sophomore Sheanna White added seven kills each. Katie
O'Connell was solid again with six kills and a team high 11 digs.
UMF ran into a well tuned machine when they took on host Colby in the
final match of the tournament. Colby's efficient offense limited
UMF's chances to get into the match and led the Mules to a 3-0
victory. UMF now stands at 1-3 overall and will return to action
on Wednesday when they travel to Thomas College for the first
conference match of the season at 7pm.

Volleyball Drops Season
Opener to Husson
The UMF volleyball team started off strong in last night's season
opening match at Husson College, however, the Eagles battled back to
take the match 3-1. UMF used a balanced offensive attack in game
one to defeat Husson 30-25. Unfortunately, hitting and defensive
errors plagued the Beavers in the final three games as Husson won all
three 20-28, 30-25 and 30-24. UMF will return to action tonight
when they travel to the Colby College Tournament to play UMaine
Machias at 8pm. UMF will take on Gordon College at 10am Saturday
and then Colby College at 3pm.
