2002 Sunrise Conference Champions

Volleyball Suffers Defeat in NAC Semifinal

The UMF volleyball team suffered a 3-1 defeat at the hands of Lasell College in the conference semifinal match today in Newton, MA.  UMF, the number two seed, won the first game of the match but was unable to maintain momentum and lost the final three games.  The Beavers close the season with a 17-9 overall record.  More details about the match will follow.

Volleyball To Play at Mount Ida in Conference Final Four

The UMF volleyball team will play Lasell College at 10:00am on Saturday at Mount Ida College in a NAC semifinal match.  If they win they will play the winner of Husson College vs. Mount Ida at 2:00pm for the conference championship.

Volleyball Advances to NAC Semifinal

The UMF volleyball match versus Elms College that was scheduled for tonight has been cancelled due to the fact that Elms had to forfeit.  UMF advances to the NAC semifinal match on Saturday.  Location and opponent will be determined by other matches being played tonight.  Check back tomorrow for more information.

Volleyball Defeats Becker and Elms to Close Regular Season

The UMF volleyball team defeated Becker College and Elms College on Saturday to end the regular season with an 8-1 conference record.  Versus Becker, UMF's Jesse Andreozzi (Jamestown, RI) led the offense with 21 kills while contributing 12 digs.  Autumn Hawkes (Pownal, ME) chipped in 13 kills and 6 aces, while Melissa Blodgett (Rumford, ME) added 9 kills and 7 aces.  Defensively, Jill Ekstedt (Wells, ME) had a team high 15 digs.  Jenna St. Pierre (Peru, ME) coordinated the attack at setter position handing out 50 assists.  UMF won the match 3-2 (26-30, 30-22, 30-23, 27-30, 15-12).  In the Elms match UMF came out with power again being led by Andreozzi who had 24 kills and 13 aces.  Hawkes added 14 kills while Ekstedt had 12 digs.  St. Pierre continued her outstanding play dishing out 37 assists.  UMF improves to 15-8 overall and will await the final conference standings which will be released on Monday November 3rd to see who they will face in quarterfinals of the North Atlantic Conference tournament.

Volleyball Suffers Loss to USM

The UMF volleyball team was defeated by USM 0-3 (21-30, 22-30, 20-30) at Dearborn Gym in Farmington. Jesse Andreozzi (Jamestown, RI) lead the team with 10 kills and Jenna St. Pierre (Peru, ME) had 16 assists.  The UMF volleyball team drops to 15-8 overall and remains 6-1 in the conference.  The Beavers will return to action Saturday when they will travel to Becker College for a 10 am and 12 pm match against Becker College and Elms College.

Volleyball Earns Victory at Unity College 3-1

The UMF volleyball team improved its overall record to 15-7 last night with a non conference victory over host Unity College.  UMF got off to a slow start letting the first game of the match slip away 25-30, but came back strong in the next three to end the night with a 3-1 win.  Jesse Andreozzi (Jamestown, RI) led UMF with 13 kill in two games while Melissa Blodgett (Rumford, ME) had 9 kills and 11 aces in three games.  Jill Ekstedt (Wells, ME) led the defense with a team high 12 digs.  UMF will return to action Wednesday night when they host non conference opponent University of Southern Maine at 7pm at Dearborn Gym.

Volleyball Goes 2-1 at UMaine Machias Tournament

The UMF volleyball team defeated UMaine Presque Isle 3-0 and Maine Maritime Academy 3-1 today in Machias.  Jesse Andreozzi (Jamestown, RI) recorded 31 kills, 12 aces and 28 digs in two matches to lead UMF.  Jackie Scott chipped in 26 kills, 10 aces and 12 digs in three matches.  UMF improves to 14-7 overall and remains 6-1 in the conference.  The Beavers will return to action on Monday when they travel to Unity College for a non-conference match up.

Volleyball Suffers Loss to St. Joseph's 0-3

In the fourth meeting of the season between UMF and St. Joseph's College the Monks finally found a way to defeat the Beavers.  In the first three matches UMF's cumulative record with St. Joe's was 9-0, however last night they were unable to get any offense going and were defeated 0-3 (10-30, 17-30, 16-30).  UMF was led by sophomore Melissa Blodgett's seven kills, followed by Jesse Andreozzi's six kills.  Senior Marci Libby recorded six digs defensively for UMF.  The Beavers drop to 12-6 overall and will return to action on Friday when they travel to Machias for a two day invitational tournament.

Volleyball Tournament Recap, UMF Finishes 3-1

The UMF volleyball team started off the second day of the annual UMF Invitational tournament with a 3-0 loss to UMaine Machias (23-30, 29-30, 24-30).  Jesse Andreozzi recorded 11 kills and 12 digs while Jenna St. Pierre handed out 20 assists.   However, the Beavers were able to rebound and get some of the younger players some action in the second game versus UMaine Presque Isle.  UMF won the match 3-0 behind the play of Senior Jackie Scott's 11 kills and 5 aces.   As well as freshman Emily Wood's 13 assists.  Tara Pontbriand chipped in with 5 service aces.  The third and final match of the day for UMF was a five game battle with conference rival Husson College.  After letting two wins slip away, UMF had to engineer  comebacks in the fourth and fifth games to secure the victory.  UMF's Jesse Andreozzi led the Beavers with 23 kills and 12 digs.  Freshman Jenna St. Pierre handed out 33 assists and sophomore Melissa Blodgett blazed 13 aces keeping Husson off balance.  UMF's record now stands at 12-5 overall.  The Beavers will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to St. Joseph's College for a 7pm dual match.

Volleyball Defeats St. Joseph's 3-0 at UMF Invitational

The UMF volleyball team kicked off the annual UMF invitational tournament tonight with a 3-0 (30-22, 30-21, 31-29) victory over St. Joseph's College.  Junior Jesse Andreozzi (Jamestown, RI) led UMF with 13 kills, eight digs and two blocks.  Freshman setter, Jenna St. Pierre (Peru, ME) handed out 22 assists and served a team high six aces.  St. Joe's was led by Holly Collyer's 11 kills, Stephanie Fiandaca's 15 digs and Kerri Padgett's 12 assists.  In the other matches of the night Salem State defeated Husson College 3-0 (30-17, 30-27, 30-19), Southern Maine defeated UMaine Presque Isle 3-0 (30-4, 30-6, 30-5) and UMaine Machias defeated Husson College 3-1 (30-22, 31-33, 30-21, 30-19).  The tournament will continue tomorrow with matches at 9am, 11am, 1pm and 3pm.

Jessica Andreozzi is NAC Volleyball Co-Player of the Week

UMF junior Jessica Andreozzi has been selected as the North Atlantic Conference co-player of the week for last week's performances.  Andreozzi had 40 kills, 7 aces and 26 digs in UMF's 3-0 week.

Volleyball Wins Two at NAC Tournament

The UMF volleyball team defeated Maine Maritime and Husson College 3-0 this afternoon in the second NAC tournament of the season.  In the first match UMF defeated Maine Maritime Academy 3-0 (30-25, 30-23, 30-22).  The Beavers were lead by junior Jesse Andreozzi (Jamestown, RI) who had 17 kills and 11 digs and freshmen Jenna St. Pierre (Peru, ME) who had 27 assists. Sophomore Melissa Blodgett (Rumford, ME) and freshmen Autumn Hawkes (Pownal, ME) handed out 6 assists each.  Later in the day UMF was looking to avenge on of their two conference losses when they faced Husson College.  Again it was Andreozzi who led the rest with 14 kills and 9 digs.  Blodgett was also instrumental in the victory recording 8 kills and 7 service aces.  Freshman Danielle Lemoi (Scituate, RI) had 10 digs to lead the defensive effort.  UMF will return to action this weekend when they host the annual UMF invitational tournament on Friday and Saturday.  UMF's record now stands at 9-4 overall and 5-2 in the NAC.

Volleyball Defeats St. Joe's 3-0

The UMF volleyball team used a balanced attack to defeat visiting St. Joseph's College 30-26, 30-23, 30-25 tonight at Dearborn Gymnasium.  UMF was led by their front line foursome of Jesse Andreozzi (9 kills, 5 aces, 6 digs), Autumn Hawkes (6 kills), Jackie Scott (6 kills) and Melissa Blodgett (7 kills, 5 digs).  UMF improves to 7-4 on the season, while St. Joe's drops to 5-8.  The Beavers will return to the court this weekend for another North Atlantic Conference tournament held at Dearborn Gym on Saturday.

Volleyball Goes 2-0 at Lesley

The UMF volleyball team bettered its conference record to 4-2 yesterday when they defeated Lesley University and Bay Path College in Massachusetts.  In the Lesley game UMF's Jenna St. Pierre (Peru, ME) handed out 26 assists the majority going to Jesse Andreozzi (Jamestown, RI) who had 17 kills in the match.  Jackie Scott (Colchester, CT) chipped in with 9 kills 6 aces and 5 digs.  Versus Bay Path College Andreozzi continued to have a great day notching 13 kills 4 assists and 12 digs.  St. Pierre handed out 21 assists while serving 5 aces.  UMF will return to action on Wednesday when they host St. Joseph's College for a non-conference match up in Dearborn Gym at 7pm.

Volleyball Cruises Past Unity

The UMF volleyball team defeated Unity College 3-0 (30-10, 30-11, 30-15) tonight at Dearborn Gym in Farmington.  It was the freshmen who led the way with Kim Metcalf (N. Waterboro, ME) serving 10 aces, Autumn Hawkes' (Pownal, ME) 8 aces and 5 kills and Jenna St. Pierre's (Peru, ME) 10 assists.  UMF improves to 4-4 overall.  Next up will be Lesley University and Bay Path College on Saturday at Lesley.

Volleyball Goes One and One in First NAC Tri-Match

In spite of a hectic day of delayed starts and a power outage the UMF volleyball team was able to find the momentum to defeat visiting Lasell College 30-23, 30-14, 30-23.  In the second match of the day UMF came up short against defending conference champions Mount Ida College losing in four games (27-30, 30-27, 25-30, 22-30).  In the other matches of the day, Thomas College lost to Lasell and Mount Ida 3-0.  UMF's record stands at 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the conference.  The Beavers return to action on Thursday night when the host non-conference opponent Unity College at 7pm.

Volleyball Blanks Thomas for Victory

The UMF volleyball team recorded their first conference win of the season last night when the defeated host Thomas College 3-0.  UMF was led by Freshman Emily Wood who notched 9 assists while serving 12 aces and classmate Jenna St. Pierre who handed out 17 assists and served 6 aces.  The Beavers improve to 1-1 in conference play and will return to action on Saturday when they host a NAC quad meet with Thomas College, Lasell University and Mount Ida College.  Games will be played at 1pm and 3pm.

Volleyball Drops Match to Husson

The UMF volleyball team suffered a tough 5 game loss to Husson College in the first conference match of the season last night.  The Beavers jumped out to a quick 2 game lead winning 30-24 and 30-14, but dropped the final three games 19-30, 22-30 and 11-15.  UMF was led by Jesse Andreozzi's 14 kills and Jenna St. Pierre's 32 assists.  The Beavers will return to the court next Tuesday when they travel to Thomas College for another conference match at 7pm.

Volleyball Goes 1-2 at St. Joseph's College

The UMF volleyball team gained some valuable on court experience this weekend when they opened the season at St. Joseph's College.  The Beavers, led by freshman Jenna St. Pierre's 39 assists defeated host St. Joe's on Sunday securing their first win of the season.  In the three match weekend (which included Maine-Machias and Southern Maine) St. Pierre handed out 84 assists to hitters Jesse Andreozzi, Autumn Hawkes, Melissa Blodget and Jackie Scott.  UMF returns to action Tuesday night when they travel to Husson College for their first conference match of the year.
