Softball Finishes Season As NAIA
Region 10 Runner Up
The UMF softball team completed one of the most successful
seasons in program history today which included what could be called the
biggest win in program history over Holy Family College. The Beavers
entered the NAIA Region 10 tournament as the #2 seed behind host Thomas
College drawing Holy Family in the first round yesterday. UMF got off
to a slow start in game one falling behind quickly and eventually losing 0-8
in five innings. However, UMF rallied in the second game of the day to
defeat Thomas College 6-3 and advance to the third round of the tournament.
Today UMF found themselves facing Holy Family again, but this time the
Beavers jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and never looked back
winning 4-2 and advancing to the Regional Championship game versus
Willmington College. Things looks good again for UMF when they pushed
three runs across in the first inning. They were able to hold on to
the lead (3-2) until the bottom of the 6th inning when Willmington scored 2
runs to go ahead for good. UMF closes the season with a 20-14 overall
record.
