FARMINGTON -- The University of Maine at Farmington and Thomas College settled on a 0-0 tie in North Atlantic Conference men's soccer action this afternoon at Prescott Field.
The Beavers (7-4-2 overall, 3-1-2 in the NAC) are scheduled to host Colby College at 3:15 p.m. on Sunday. The match is a makeup for the postponed Oct. 7 contest. The Terriers stand at 5-7-2 (3-1-2) and are scheduled to visit Colby Monday.
The Terriers enjoyed the bulk of the scoring opportunities (25-10 shot advantage), but could not break past Farmington goalkeeper Erik Corcoran (Gorham, NH). Corcoran stopped five shots for the Beavers.
Corcoran swallowed up bids by Andrew Pelletier (Topsham, ME) and Tim Costa (Pelham, NH) in the first 10-minute overtime and then preserved the deadlock in the second extra session with a diving stab on a header by Andy Mack (Freeport, ME). The Terriers held a 7-2 advantage in shots in the two overtimes.
Corcoran also benefited from the play of his defense with Sean Raph (Fairfield, ME) clearing away a header by Thomas' Tom Desjardins (Fort Kent, ME) at 70:51.
Farmington only forced Thomas netminder James Liebowitz (South China, ME) into a pair of saves in the match. The Beavers' best chance came 32 minutes into the contest when Liebowitz missed trying to make a play on Raph's cross to the far post, but Dillon Clark (Old Town, ME) could not wrangle the ball in for a shot at the empty net.
