Kelly leads men's soccer by Johnson State

JOHNSON, Vt. -- Michael Kelly (Norton, MA) netted a pair of goals as the University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team notched a 2-1 North Atlantic Conference overtime victory over Johnson State College this afternoon.

The Beavers ran their record to 6-4 overall and 3-1 in the North Atlantic Conference. Farmington is scheduled to visit Lyndon State College on Sunday. The loss dropped Johnson State to 6-3-1, 2-1 in the NAC.

The first half was knotted at 0-0 with Farmington having a goal called back for off-sides.  The second half saw the Badgers draw first blood with a penalty kick as junior Alex Komeyan (Essex, VT) slotted the ball

coolly by Farmingto keeper Erik Corcoran (Gorham, NH) in the 53:00 and the race was on.  Both teams pushed hard and Johnson saw a goal called back also for offsides.

Farmington found the answer in the 78th minute as Kelly took a ball from Dillon Clark (Old Town, ME) forcing OT.

The visiting Beavers struck in the first half of OT with Kelly receiving a through ball from Sean Raph (Fairfield, ME) and leaving JSC goalkeeper Steve Noyes (Barre, VT) in no man’s land. 

Both keepers were strong throughout with Noyes recording four saves while Corcoran made six saves.
