FARMINGTON -- Patrick Jackson (Durham, NH) scored twice in the final 6:32 to push Bates College past the University of Maine at Farmington 2-1 in non-conference men's soccer action this afternoon at Prescott Field.
The Beavers (3-4) are scheduled to host Green Mountain College in North Atlantic Conference action Saturday, while the Bobcats (2-4) are tabbed to host Tufts University Saturday in New England Small College Athletic Conference competition.
With impending darkness and a downpour, Jackson's game-winner came with 1:04 left in the contest off a pass ahead by Tyler Dewdney (Meriden, NH). Jackson tied the match at 83:28 when he hammered in a well-placed cross by Ethan Hirshberg (Concord, NH).
Jackson's performance nullified a tremendous effort by the Beavers as the hosts carried play in the opening half (10-4 shot advantage). The momentum carried into the second half as Dillon Clark (Old Town, ME) scored off a misplayed towering ball by Sean Raph (Fairfield, ME) at 54:19 for a 1-0 lead for Farmington.
Over the final 20 minutes, the Bobcats regained play with a 7-1 shot advantage and four corner kicks. Dewdney had a doorstep shot and a free kick hauled in by Farmington keeper Erik Corcoran (Gorham, NH) before Jackson came through for the 2-1 Bates victory.
Corcoran registered five saves for Farmington. The Bobcats finished with an 18-16 shot advantage, but the Beavers took 11 corner kicks to Bates' eight.
Greg Watts (West Chester, PA) stopped seven shots in the win.
