Men's soccer pulls away from Thomas
WATERVILLE. -- The University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team used three second-half goals to distanced itself from Thomas College for a 6-4 win in North Atlantic Conference action today.
James Tollefson (Middletown, RI) netted a hat trick for Beavers, who ran their record to 6-6 overall and 4-2 in the NAC. Farmington is scheduled to host Husson University next Saturday. The Terriers fell to 6-10 (2-4).
Following Tollefson, Andrew Harner (Naperville, IL), Patrick Martin (West Berlin, VT) and Ethan Jean (Jackson, ME) each tallied a goal.
After the Terriers staked a 2-1 lead, Tollefson struck twice over the final 10 minutes of the opening half for a 3-2 edge for Farmington at intermission. Thomas' Tim Costa scored for the second time in the game to pull the hosts even with the Beavers 3:24 after halftime, but 32 seconds later Jean converted a feed by Daniel Horne (Bay Shore, NY) to put the Beavers back into a 4-3 lead. Martin and Tollefson tacked on insurance markers en route to the win.
Matthew Dennett (Augusta, ME) stopped four shots for Farmington.
Keegan Curtin made four saves over the first 68 minutes before giving way to James Gorneau.
