Tollefson tallies twice in men's soccer win

POULTNEY, Vt. -- The University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team used two second half goals to beat Green Mountain College 3-0 in North Atlantic Conference action today.

James Tollefson (Middletown, RI) netted a pair of goals for the Beavers, who evened their record at 3-3 (2-0 in the NAC) with a trip to Castleton State College slated for Sunday. The Eagles remained winless at 0-11 (0-2).

Farmington opened the scoring at 28:24 of the first half when the Eagles gave the ball away deep in their defensive third.  The ensuing service by Sean Raph (Waterville, ME) found Tollefson, who pushed the ball beyond the reach of GMC keeper Ryder Ritchie. The Eagles threatened to draw level and nearly did after banging a shot of the post in the closing minutes of the first half following a piercing ball from Brendan Regan.

The Beavers opened the second half with high pressure and were rewarded only four minutes in when a lapse in the GMC rear-guard was exploited for the second tally of the game as Tollefson converted a feed by Dylan Moreau (Phippsburg, ME). Sam Boynton (Whitefield, ME) finished a pass by Daniel Horne (Bay Shore, NY) to cap the scoring with 21 minutes left to play.

The eagles chased the game for much of the second half, but were unable to find a goal and conceded a third and final goal with 21 minutes remaining.

Matthew Dennett (Augusta, ME) recorded 11 saves for Farmington.

Ritchie made 17 saves in the defeat.
