Men's soccer blanked at Bowdoin
BRUNSWICK -- The University of Maine at Farmington men's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Bowdoin College in non-conference action today.
Brian Lemont (Brunswick, ME) made 11 saves to keep the Beavers (1-1) in the contest as the Polar Bears outshot Farmington 23-1.
Bowdoin's Hugh Fleming scored a late first-half goal and Greg Frechette added a second-half tally to give the Polar Bears a season-opening victory.
Bowdoin controlled the pace of play throughout, but couldn't find the net until late in the opening stanza. Fleming took a pass from Dominic Fitzpatrick and crafted a left-footed strike into the lower right corner to give the hosts a 1-0 advantage just 1:05 before intermission. Midway though the second period, Frechette took a cross from Will Alden-Dunn and played it perfectly under the cross bar to make it 2-0.
Dan Hicks was forced to make just one save -- a stop on a Michael Camacho (Chelmsford, MA) header -- in the victory.
