Men's soccer falls to Bates

FARMINGTON -- Bates College men's soccer scored three goals over the first 20 minutes and rolled to a 5-0 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington on Wednesday at Prescott Field.

The Beavers dropped to 1-1-2 and are scheduled to visit Elms College on Saturday. Bates -- which held an 18-2 shot advantage -- improved to 1-2.

Jonathan Labozzo (New Gloucester, ME) notched the first two goals of the contest for the Bobcats. Labozzo knocked in a loose ball after a sliding stop by UMF goalkeeper Brian Lemont (Brunswick, ME) on a Duane Pelz (Boulder, CO) boot at 2:53 and padded the advantage after a ball was misplayed in the Beaver backfield. Pelz converted a nice cross by Brent Morin (Hanover, NH) at 20:15 for the 3-0 advantage at halftime.

Patrick King (Gorham, ME) scored 1:01 into the second half and Tyler Dewdney (Meriden, NH) chipped in a Dae Ro Lee (Yongin, Korea) pass at 88:03 to complete the 5-0 Bates victory.

Lemont worked the first half for UMF with a pair of saves. In the second half, Matt Dennett (Augusta, ME), at 43:00 and two saves, and Rodney Payne (Oxford, ME), at 2:00 with no saves, manned the pipes for the Beavers.

Aaron Schleicher (Londonderry, NH) and Robert Wesley-Munro (Walpole, MA) split time in goal for the Bobcats. Schleicher made two saves.
