Men's basketball survives at Castleton

CASTLETON, Vt. -- The University of Maine at Farmington men's basketball team rallied late to take down Castleton State College 69-68 in North Atlantic Conference action today.

Farmington upped its record to 8-9 overall and 6-2 in conference action. The Beavers are scheduled to host Husson University on Tuesday with the men's game at 5:30 p.m. and the women's game to follow. Castleton dropped to 2-16 (1-6).

Josh Tanguay (Gorham, ME) powered the Beavers with 21 points and 15 rebounds, including 11 offensive boards. Eric Lelansky (Portland, ME) added 12 points, six assists and seven rebounds and Ted Neil (Strong, ME) chipped in 11 points, while Eric Taylor (Oakland, ME) added nine points and 13 rebounds.

Tanguay scored eight consecutive points, all in the paint, and four coming off offensive rebounds to give the Beavers a 63-62 lead with 5:56 remaining. After a Castleton timeout, Keith Schneider scored to make it 64-63 Castleton, but successive layups from DJ Gerrish (Rumford, ME) pushed the Farmington lead to 67-64 with four minutes remaining. Castleton was able to grab the lead at 68-67 after a pair of hoops, but Lelansky answered with the game-winner with just less than two minutes left in regulation.

Castleton jumped out to a 37-33 halftime lead thanks in large part to a 14-for-31 performance from the field which included 6-of-10 from beyond the three-point stripe. Farmington limited Castleton to just 35 percent in the second half, while making 15-of-30 attempts to earn the win.

Seth Harrington scored a team-high 16 points to pace Castleton. Kevin Cayea added 13 points, seven assists and six rebounds, while Cameron Bodine and Marcus Hass chipped in 11 and 10 points respectively.
