SOUTH PORTLAND -- The University of Maine at Farmington golf team placed second at the Southern Maine Cup at Sable Oaks Golf Course today.
The host Huskies won the event with 221 followed by the Beavers (231), University of New England (236) and St. Joseph's (242). The Southern Maine Cup features pairs of golfers playing six holes of best ball, followed by six holes of scramble format and finally six holed of alternate shot golf.
The Farmington duo of juniors Richard Matthews (Portland, ME) and Reid Bond (Farmington, ME) turned in the second best round of the day with a score of 72.
The Beavers are scheduled to return to action Tuesday at the Husson Invitational at Penobscot Valley Country Club. Farmington's women's team is scheduled to host Bates and Bowdoin Sunday for an event at Wilson Lake Country Club.
