Golf places third at Terrier Open

Nick Waltz

VASSALBORO -- Nick Waltz (Damariscotta, ME) fired a 78 to tie for medalist honors as the University of Maine at Farmington golf team opened its season with a third-place finish at the Thomas College Terrier Open at Natanis Golf Course.

Husson University won the event with a 318 followed by Bowdoin College (326) and the Beavers (332). University of Southern Maine (340), Thomas (351), University of Maine at Presque Isle (362) and Maine Maritime Academy (376) completed the field.

Waltz tied with Husson's Kevin Byrne for medalist honors. Mike Lawson (Williamsburg TWP, ME) was the next best Beaver at 80, while Reid Bond (Farmington, ME) and Rich Matthews (Portland, ME) each shot an 87.

The Beavers are scheduled to return to action Saturday at the Colby Invitational.
