Golf hosts UMF Invitational

BELGRADE LAKES -- The Husson University golf team claimed the top spot at the University of Maine at Farmington Invitational today at Belgrade Lakes Golf Club.

The Eagles carded a four-man total of 308 to lead the field followed by the University of Southern Maine (322), Bowdoin College (338), Farmington Maroon (340), St. Joseph's (340), University of New England (341), Colby College (347), Bates College (368), Maine Maritime Academy (371), Thomas College (371) and Farmington Black (396).

Husson's John Ellis was the top individual medalist at 75 (37-38) followed by teammate Mike Hersey at 76 (40-36). Farmington's Douglas Jennings (Hallowell, ME) and Bowdoin's Kevin Cutter were tied for third at 77. The top five was rounded out by Husson's Kevin Byrne and Southern Maine's Ben Loss at 78.

In women's action, Bates defeated Farmington 128-162. Farmington's Mo Beaulieu (Monmouth, ME) and Patricia Camp (Walton, IN) each turned in a 52, while Vicki Foster (Belgrade, ME) shot a 58.
