Beavers Ready To Tee Off
After a record-breaking season in 2001, the UMF Men’s Golf Team is back on the course and ready to be a fierce powerhouse in the newly formed Sunrise Conference. With an experienced-laden team driven by senior and MAC 2001 All-Conference Team player Andy Carlton and standout talent junior Sam
Marzenell, the Beavers have high hopes and are expecting low scores.
Other key starters include sophomore Aaron Wood, junior Ricky Blouin and senior Tony
Russel. Also joining the ranks is freshman-phenom Matt Littlefield of Portland, who plans to serve as team manager as he sits out a year of ineligibility. Littlefield will be on the links next year and is expected to be a vital part of the Beaver team.
According to veteran coach Jon Moody the team is looking “pretty good”. “Last year we had a sub-par season. We set four team records but our competition really stepped it up. This year, we have high expectations and expect to be one of the better teams in the conference.”
Good team chemistry and a deep bench will put the team right on par for a winning season as will the single scores of team leaders Marzenell and Carlton, both who have a clear shot at clinching the individual conference title and moving on the nationals. “Our goal is to win every tournament and have one team member take the top spot.” Says Moody confidently, “We think that’s realistic.”
