10/21/09 Agnew sisters power field hockey to win FARMINGTON -- Hattie Agnew (Guilford, ME) and Annie Agnew (Guilford, ME) each scored a goal to lead the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team to a 2-0 North Atlantic Conference victory over Thomas College today at Prescott Field. The Beavers upped their record to 7-6 overall and 4-1 in the NAC. Farmington is scheduled to host Castleton State College Saturday at 1 p.m. in a key NAC showdown. The Terriers (3-11, 1-4) are slated to host Rivier College Saturday in NAC action. Hattie Agnew scored off a goalmouth scramble at 10:40 to put the Beavers ahead 1-0. Annie Agnew followed with her first collegiate goal at 28:27 off a long cross by Ashley Wentworth (North Berwick, ME) for the 2-0 final.
Farmington, which slipped past the Terriers 2-1 in overtime in Waterville earlier this season, controlled action throughout the contest with a 26-6 command in shots and a 10-3 advantage in penalty corners. Despite the disparity in shots, the Terriers were not without their chances as Farmington goalkeeper Sarah Brown (Windham, ME) turned back a pair of Ali Kriegel (Winslow, ME) bids in the opening half and was helped out by a defensive save by Emma Deans (Gorham, ME) in the second half. Brown finished with five saves for Farmington. Meg Denby (Copiague, NY) recorded 16 saves for the Terriers.
