Deans lifts field hockey to overtime win

WATERVILLE -- Emma Deans (Gorham, ME) scored in overtime to propel the University of Maine at Farmington field hockey team to a 2-1 non-conference victory over Thomas College this afternoon.

The Beavers evened their record at 2-2 and are scheduled to visit Bates College on Thursday. The Terriers slipped to 1-5

Thomas opened the scoring when Kelly Martel scored of a penalty corner 13 minutes into the game. Farmington tied the game four minutes later when Ashley Wentworth (North Berwick, ME) beat Terrier goalie Meg Denby.  The game remained scoreless after 70 minutes of action and overtime ensued.

In overtime, Deans' second effort on her initial shot proved too much for Denby, who ended the day with a save.

Farmington’s goalie Felisha Taylor (Chelsea, ME) preserved the win stopping two shots on the day.  The Terriers outshot the Beavers 15-9 and edged Farmington in corners, 11-6.
