FARMINGTON -- University of Maine at Farmington senior captain Dan Stefanilo (Sanford, ME) and freshman outfielder Russ Schmelzer (Winthrop, ME) were recognized by the North Atlantic Conference today for their efforts in the baseball team's season-opening doubleheader at Massachusetts Maritime Academy.

The Beavers fell 9-4 and 7-3 to the Buccaneers on Friday to start the season 0-2. Farmington is scheduled to return to action Saturday with a doubleheader at Husson College at 11 a.m.

Stefanilo was named the NAC Player of the Week after going 2 for 3 with an RBI in the Beavers' 9-4 loss. In the two-game set, Stefanilo recorded 15 putouts at first base.

Schmelzer was honored as the NAC Rookie of the Week. The freshman went 2 for 5 at the plate with two runs and three walks in a pair of losses at Mass. Maritime. Schmelzer swiped four bases in five attempts in the doubleheader.
