Women's soccer powers by Machias

FARMINGTON -- Laura St. John (Wayne, ME) tallied two goals as the University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team took a 4-0 win over the University of Maine at Machias in non-conference play today at Prescott Field.

The Beavers (2-0) are scheduled to host Rivier College Sunday. The Clippers dropped to 0-2 with a match versus Thomas College in Waterville Sunday.

St. John scored an unassisted goal in the opening half for a 1-0 edge for the hosts at intermission, but the Beavers blasted into the second half with three goals in the first 11:55.

Alida Peake (Penobscot, ME) scored a close-range shot off a Noelle Moulton (York, ME) tap at 47:06 for a 2-0 lead. Beth Charles (New Vineyard, ME) pushed the advantage to 3-0 at 55:15 and St. John followed 1:40 later off a Melissa St. Amand (Windsor, ME) pass for the 4-0 difference.

McKell Barnes (Durham, ME) made two saves in 58:40 in goal for the Beavers. Crystal Johnson (Cornville, ME) finished and did not need to make a save.

Stephanie Wunderley (East Machias, ME) recorded seven saves in the loss as the Clippers were outshot 17-8.
