FARMINGTON – Colby College sent the University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team to its fourth straight defeat as the Mules rolled to a 6-0 non-conference win over the Beavers this afternoon at Prescott Field.
The Beavers (2-4) are scheduled to travel to Massachusetts this weekend to face Lesley University Friday and Wheelock College Saturday. The Mules (1-2-1) are scheduled to host Williams College Saturday.
Sam Merriweather (Los Altos, CA) netted a pair of goals for Colby, which held a 22-5 command in shots. Alex Merriweather (Los Altos, CA) and Leah Turino (Stoneham, MA) each added a goal and an assist in the win, while Julie Denison (Northbrook, IL), and Katie Palano (Wakefield, MA) each had a goal.
Denison gave the Mules a 1-0 edge on a doorstop chip 4:15 into the contest and Sam Merriweather cashed in a pretty feed from Emily Moos (Wayzata, MN) at 31:26 for a 2-0 Colby advantage at the half. Turino's unassisted marker and Palano's score off a Meghan Guay (Falmouth, ME) pass in the first 15 minutes of the second half sealed the victory and the Mules tallied two more in the final seven minutes for the win.
McKell Barnes (Durham, ME) and Crystal Johnson (Cornville, ME) split time in goal for Farmington with Barnes taking the loss. Barnes made seven saves, while Johnson stopped four shots.
Loni Pisani (Kanata, Canada) stopped three shots for Colby.
