BRUNSWICK -- The University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team was handed a 5-0 setback by Bowdoin College today in non-conference action.
The Beavers (3-6) are scheduled to host Green Mountain College Saturday and Castleton State College Sunday in North Atlantic Conference play.
The Polar Bears (3-3) scored five first-half goals en route to the victory. Bowdoin received a two goals apiece from Nicole Fossi and Ellery Gould in the victory as the Beavers fell for the sixth time in their last seven games.
Fossi's first two collegiate goals put the Polar Bears on top within the first 5:05 of Wednesday's contest. The first-year banged home a rebound off an Ellery Gould shot 4:15 in before tucking a shot inside the left post off a perfect cross from Stacie Sammott just 50 seconds later. A few minutes later, Gould ripped a 20-yard strike into the net to give the hosts a three-goal edge. Toni DaCampo set up Bowdoin's final two goals, dishing a pass to Dana Riker, who lofted a shot from outside the box that slipped under the crossbar at 32:31. Three minutes later, DaCampo slipped a through-pass to Gould who netted the final score of the afternoon.
Farmington's McKell Barnes (Durham, ME) stopped nine shots in the loss while Kat Flaherty (one save) and Devin Hardy (zero saves) each played a half for Bowdoin.
