Women's soccer beaten by Bates

McKell Barnes

FARMINGTON -- Tina Tobin (Lowell, MA) collected a goal and an assist to lead Bates College past the University of Maine at Farmington 2-0 in non-conference women's soccer action at Prescott Field this afternoon.

The Beavers (5-8-1) are scheduled to host North Atlantic Conference rival Thomas College Saturday (women at 1 p.m., men to follow). The Bobcats improved to 4-6-1 with a trip to Wesleyan University Saturday for an 11 a.m. match.

Tobin got things rolling early for Bates as the sophomore deposited a cross by Sam Rose (Toronto, Ontario) at 5:20 for a 1-0 lead. Despite a 16-4 command in shots in the opening half, the Bobcats could not expand their advantage as only five of their offerings were on goal.

Alix Vendeventer (North Attleboro, MA) gave Bates a 2-0 advantage at 55:20 when she converted a pass by Tobin.

McKell Barnes (Durham, ME) recorded seven saves for Farmington, which was outshot 23-5, but only nine of Bates' shots were on goal.

Annie Burns (Topsfield, MA) stopped two shots in the shutout.
