Women's soccer handles Wheelock
BOSTON -- The University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team earned its first win under the direction of head coach Molly Wilkie with a 5-0 victory over Wheelock College this afternoon.
The Beavers (1-1) are scheduled to visit Wheaton College on Sunday.
Farmington scored all the offense they needed when freshman Jennifer Richter (Ellsworth, ME) scored a goal five minutes into the first period. Chelsea Norton (Westbrook, ME) added another unassisted goal ten minutes later to give Farmington a 2-0 advantage. The Wildcats came close to cutting the lead in half, but a straight on shot by Lindsey Lacourse (Scarborough, ME) was stopped by Beaver goalkeeper McKell Barnes (Durham, ME).
Bethany Charles (New Vineyard, ME) added a third goal on a pass from teammate Danica Wilson (Sidney, ME) to put the Beavers up 3-0 at the half. Katherine Gagne (Dixfield, ME) and Julie Walters (Wells, ME) each added an unassisted goal in the second half.
