Women's soccer falls to Wheaton

NORTON, Mass. -- Emily Hough (Norwich, VT) led the nationally-ranked Wheaton College women's soccer team with a goal and two assists during Sunday's 4-0 victory over the University of Maine at Farmington this afternoon in Mirrione Stadium.

The Beavers fell to 1-2 and are scheduled to host the University of Southern Maine on Tuesday. Wheaton, which is ranked 13th in the country and second in New England by the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) improved its overall mark to 6-1. .

Recording its sixth shutout of the season and 10th in its last 12 contests, the Blue and White defense limited Farmington to two shots.  The Lyons haven't surrendered a goal in 427:34.  Hough, who has scored the game-winner in three straight matches, collected the winner just 3:37 into play.  Taking the feed from Jessica Bramucci (Ludlow, MA) in the middle of the field just outside the box, Hough made a nifty move to slide by one defender before driving the ball past the Beaver goalie.

In the 23rd minute, Lyndsey McManus (Marshfield, MA) ripped her 20-yard shot into the upper right corner of the net thanks to a free kick above the box.  Bramucci made it a 3-0 game at 36:06, taking a Hough feed and placing her hard-hit shot just beneath the crossbar.  The Lyons entered the half with advantages of 18-2 in shots and 4-1 in corner kicks.

Lauren Caney (West Springfield, MA) tallied for the first time this fall 3:03 into the second stanza, with Hough taking assist honors after notching her fourth point of the day.  For the game, Wheaton outshot Farmington, 35-2 while taking eight of the nine corners.

Lindsay Leddy (Warwick, RI) improved to 4-0 on the season after nearly 57 minutes of action, while Kasey Frasier (Bennington, VT) went untested the rest of the way.

Beaver sophomore Mckell Barnes (Durham, ME), who prevented Wheaton's fifth goal with a nice diving save late in the contest, finished with nine stops.
