Women's soccer tipped by USM
FARMINGTON -- The University of Southern Maine women's soccer team slipped past the University of Maine at Farmington 1-0 this afternoon at Prescott Field.
The Beavers dropped to 1-3 and are scheduled to host North Atlantic Conference foe Maine Maritime Academy on Saturday at 3:15 p.m. The Huskies improved to 3-1 with their Little East Conference opener Saturday at 1 p.m. in Gorham against Keene State.
USM's Danielle Poulin (Readfield, ME) broke a scoreless deadlock at 68:33. Poulin made a strong individual push down the sideline and fired a shot into the back of the net to give the Huskies a 1-0 edge.
Farmington -- which carried play in the opening half to an 8-3 shot advantage -- picked up its play over the final 10 minutes. The Beavers' best bid came with 5:30 left to play as an Amber Murphy (Manchester, NH) cross gave Chelsea Norton (Westbrook, ME) a front-door chance 1-on-1 with USM keeper Alison Bradley (Auckland, New Zealand), but Norton's boot went wide of the goal.
Bradley finished with five saves in the victory.
University of Maine at Farmington netminder Mckell Barnes (Durham, ME) made three stops for the Beavers, who held a 17-8 command in shots.
