Walters' goal gives women's soccer victory
POULTNEY, Vt. -- Julie Walters (Wells, ME) capitalized off a deflected ball in front of the net with less than four minutes remaining to seal a 3-2 victory for the University of Maine at Farmington over Green Mountain College in North Atlantic Conference play today.
The Beavers (3-3 overall, 2-0 in the NAC) are scheduled to visit Castleton State College Sunday. The Eagles slipped to 3-5 (1-1).
Melissa St. Amand (Windsor, ME) started the Beavers off quickly with an unassisted goal just four minutes into the match. The host Eagles answered back led by a pair of goals by Taylor Riso (Portland, OR). Riso's first goal, assisted by Monique Couture (Santa Barbara, CA), came half-way through the first half to tie the game at 1-1. Riso's second goal (and sixth of the season) came off the foot of fellow Emily Heale (East Bethany, NY).
The Beavers battled back with an Amber Murphy (Manchester, NH) goal, assisted by Walters with just over 10 minutes to play.
Farmington goalkeeper Mckell Barnes (Durham, ME) had five saves on the day, while GMC goalkeeper Karen Davidson (Seymour, CT) had 22.
