Women's soccer bested by Bates

LEWISTON -- The University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team was dealt a 4-0 setback by Bates College in non-conference action today.

The Beavers (7-6 overall) are scheduled to host Husson University in its regular-season finale on Saturday at Prescott Field. The women's game is slated for a noon start with the men's match to follow. The Bobcats improved to 5-7.

After Farmington fell behind 1-0 at intermission due to an own goal, the Bobcats exploded for three goals after intermission. Julie Brown converted an Avery Pierce pass 3:59 into the second half to push the lead to 2-0. Courtney Talcott collected an unassisted marker at 54:38 to increase the advantage to 3-0 and Brown followed with her second score -- this time off an assist by Katherine Bailey -- at 72:37 for a 4-0 final.

Farmington goalkeeper Mckell Barnes (Durham, ME) stopped 11 shots in the loss. Bates held a 34-6 command in shots and took four corner kicks to two for the Beavers.

Annie Burns made three saves for the Bobcats.
