Women's soccer in overtime victory

FARMINGTON -- Jackie Mrazik (Mount Vernon, ME) scored 1:17 into overtime to propel the University of Maine at Farmington women's soccer team to a 2-1 win over the University of Maine at Fort Kent at Prescott Field on Sunday.

The Beavers ran their record to 11-13 with their 10th straight victory and are scheduled to visit Lyndon State College Wednesday. The Bengals slipped to 7-4-2.

Despite holding a 26-5 shot advantage and a 6-1 lead in corner kicks, the Beavers needed Mrazik's 25-yard lofted shot that UMFK netminder Liz LaPlante fingertipped on its way to the back of the net to take the victory.

Liv Irons (York, ME) gave UMF a 1-0 lead 26 seconds after intermission as she booted in a pass slid across the goalmouth by Chelsea Norton (Westbrook, ME).

The Bengals tied the match at 1-1 at 55:03 as UMF goalkeeper Kerry Kowalczyk (Topsham, ME) came out the goal to make a stop on UMFK's Brianne McGary, but Sarah Nadeau knocked the rebound in to set the stage for overtime and Mrazik's winner.

Kowalczyk finished with one save for UMF.

LaPlante stopped 12 shots in the loss.
