Women's soccer drops season opener
FARMINGTON -- St. Joseph's College women's soccer scored three second-half goals to get past the University of Maine at Farmington 3-1 in the Beavers' season opener at Prescott Field.
The Beavers dropped to 0-1 and are scheduled to host Colby on Wednesday. The Monks ran their record to 3-0.
Jackie Mrazik (Mount Vernon, ME) put the Beavers ahead at 30:36 when she lofted a direct kick over St. Joseph's netminder Katye Mayo (Fairfield, ME).
Brianna Jordan (Scarborough, ME) tied the game at 1-1 for the Monks when she converted a Whitney Linindoll (Paris, ME) feed at 69 :42.
Anna Willis (Gorham, ME) put St. Joseph's ahead 2-1 at 77:56 after making a move around a defender and beating goalkeeper Melissa Demerchant (Presque Isle, ME). Katie Jordan (Sandwich, MA) padded the lead at 89:56 off a pass by Jillian Leger (Westminster, MA) for the 3-1 victory.
Demerchant made 10 saves for the Beavers as the hosts were outshot 10-4.
Mayo made three stops in the win.
