Women's cross country 5th at States

CUMBERLAND -- The University of Maine at Farmington men's cross country team placed fifth out of eight teams at the State of Maine Championships today at Twin Brook Recreational Area.

Colby College won the title with 30 points with Bowdoin College (46) and Bates College (57) close behind. University of Southern Maine (129), Farmington (151), St. Joseph's College (155), University of New England (187) and University of Maine at Presque Isle (241) completed the field.

Melani St. Pierre (Charlestown, NH) was the first Farmington runner to cross the finish line on the 5K course in 21st place at 20:01.93. Emily Farley (Bernard, ME) at 34th in 20:33.03, Emily Weston (Rumford, ME) at 48th in 21:16.76, Rebecca Cunningham (Eliot, ME) at 53rd in 21:34.46 and Lyn Plog (Avon, ME) at 60th in 21:56.30 completed the scoring for the Beavers.

Bowdoin's Anne Monjar was the top finisher at 18:40.17.

The Beavers are scheduled to return to action Nov. 1 at the North Atlantic Conference Championships at Johnson State College.
