Cross country teams open at UNE

BIDDEFORD -- The University of Maine at Farmington men's and women's cross country teams opened their seasons at the University of New England Invitational on Saturday.

The men's team placed fourth in a 10-team field. The Beavers totaled 110 points to fall behind USM (18), UNE (65) and St. Joseph's (80). The women's team earned sixth in a nine-squad competition with 128 points. Bates won the women's race with 29 points.

UMF's Peter Delano (Rockland, ME) placed ninth in men's 8,000-meter race with a time of 31:28. USM's Curtis Wheeler took first with a finish of 27:48.

UMF's Emily Farley (Mount Desert Island, ME) copped fourth in the women's 5,000-meter race with a finish of 21:28. Farley was just behind Endicott's Kelsey Conn (20:35), Bates' Megan McClelland (21:10) and Bates' Isabel Alexander (21:26).
