UMF Cross Country to Host Healthy Beaver 5K Road Race

The UMF men’s and women’s cross country teams will hold a 5K race on Saturday, April 29 in Farmington, ME to support their respective teams.  The race will begin at 10:30 a.m. at the Health and Fitness Center and will be preceded by a one mile “Fun Run” for children.  Pre-registration is $4 for UMF students and $6 for non-UMF students, while registration on the 29th is $6 for UMF students and $8 for non-UMF students.  Check-in begins at 8:00 a.m.  Those interested in participating can download the application form and drop off, with payment, to Wendy Browning in the athletics office at Dearborn Gymnasium.  APPLICATION

Women’s XC Takes 23rd at New England Championships

 The University of Maine at Farmington women’s cross country team concluded the 2005 season by competing at the New England Division III Championships today, hosted by Springfield College.  The women’s team finished 23rd out of 41 teams, led by Andrea Spearrin (Skowhegan, ME) who finished 78th with a time of 23:59.6.  Kathryn Dickinson (South Berwick, ME) was the next UMF finisher, taking 136th with a time of 28:34.7.

Spearrin Repeats as UMF Women Capture 2005 NAC XC Championship

For the second-straight year, Andrea Spearrin took top honors at the NAC Cross Country Championships, clocking 21:36.1 over the 5K course to led UMF to its second-straight NAC Championship, today in Farmington.  Spearrin and teammate Kate Dickinson (22:20.1) finished 1-2 to lead the Beavers, who placed five runners among the conference’s top nine finishers.  Teri Slawek (22:56.3) and Sam Posey (22:58.3) ran together and finished 4-5, while Erika Hoddinott finished strong, passing several runners over the final mile of the race to take ninth with a time of 24:31.8.  Johnson State finished second to UMF in the team standings.

Salwek Earns NAC Rookie of the Week Honors for the Second-Straight Week

Heidi Salwek, a freshman from Weld, was named the NAC Rookie Runner of the Week for the second time in a row after finishing 48th at the State of Maine meet with a time of 22:29 over the 5K course.

Women's XC Takes Sixth at Maine State Meet

The UMF Beavers finished sixth today at the Maine State Cross Country Championships, held at Colby College. Andra Spearrin, who clocked 20:55.01 over the 5K course to finish 17th overall,was the top UMF finisher.  Kate Dickinson was second, placing 47th in 22:24.93, while Teri Slawek was third (48th overall) with a time of 22:29.93.  Samantha Posey (54th, 22:57.49) and Erika Hoddinott (66th, 24:06.36) rounded out the UMF scorers.  Results

Women's XC Finishes 11th at James Early Invite;  Spearrin and Salwek Earn NAC Honors

Andra Spearrin of Skowhegan placed 22nd out of a total of 223 runners at the James Early Invitational to earn the NAC Runner of the Week award. The junior endured the sloppy conditions and finished the 3k course in 20:01, leading the Beavers to an 11th place finish. Freshman Teri Salwek of Weld finished 73rd, clocking 21:30, to earn NAC Rookie of the Week honors.  Results

UMF Women's Cross Country Finishes 4th at Home

The women's cross country team took 5th place at the UMF Invitational on Saturday. The Beavers were led by Junior Andra Spearrin who took 9th place overall in the most difficult race of the 2005 season. Spearrin finished in a time of 21:17. Freshman Samantha Posey was the next UMF runner to finish in 16th place with a time of 22:03. Freshman Teri Slawek rounded out the top 25 with a finishing time of 22:55. The rest of the team finished as follows: Junior Kate Dickinson (23:57), Sophomore Erika Hoddinott (24:21), Freshman Emily Weston (24:23), Sophomore Kendra Pouliot (26:02), Freshman Jasmine Brooks (26:16) and Freshman Sarah Oullette (28:27). The Beavers will travel to Westfield, MA for the Westfield Invitational next weekend.

Women's Cross Country Sets Records at Gordon College

Despite limited numbers the Beavers raced to a fantastic performance with several personal records on Saturday at the Pop Crowell Invitational at Gordon College. Steady all season, Junior Andra Spearrin led UMF with a team and personal best time of 19:55 and a 3rd place finish at the highly competitive meet. Freshman Samantha Posey who has been steady all season long turned in a personal best for the third week in a row covering the 5k course in 20:43. Rounding out the 8th place team performance for UMF were junior Kate Dickinson with a season best time of 22:27, taking over a minute off her time from last weekend, freshman Teri Slawek with a personal best time of 21:49, freshman Emily Weston, running in her first ever collegiate race with an impressive time of 24:04, sophomore Kendra Pouliot kept the personal record trend going turning i! n a time of 24:55, as did freshman Sarah Oullette who ran a personal best of 25:28, and sophmore Amy Brown who finished in 25:38. The team has steadily improved each week and is preparing for their home meet next weekend on October 1st at the Mt. Blue course in Farmington.

Women's Cross Country Competes at UMass Dartmouth

The Beavers had an impressive performance with several Personal Bests on Saturday at the highly competitive UMass Dartmouth Invitational. Junior Andra Spearrin led UMF with a team best time of 20:09 dropping 36 seconds from her previous personal best and a 60th place overall finish out of 264 runners. Freshman Samantha Posey turned in a personal best of 21:04, bettering her previous best from last weekend by 42 seconds. Rounding out a great team performance for UMF other finishers were freshman Teri Slawek, running in her first collegiate cross country race ran well with a time of 22:09, junior Kate Dickinson with a time of 22:51, sophomore Erika Hoddinott with a personal best time of 23:23, sophomore Jasmine Brooks shaved almost two minutes off her race time from the prevoius week with an impressive 24:12, freshman Sarah Oullette with a personal best of25:36, sophomore Amy Brown (26:31), and sophomore Kendra Pouliot (26:47). The Beavers will travel to Gordon College for the Pop Crowell Invitational on Saturday September 24th.

Women's Cross Country Starts Season Strong

The Beavers produced a strong performance Saturday as they placed 4th at the UNE Invitational. Junior Andra Spearrin led UMF with a team best time of 20:45 and a 5th place overall finish. Freshman Samantha Posey turned in an impressive 16th overall with a time of 21:46 in her first collegiate race. Rounding out a great team performance for UMF other finishers were junior Kate Dickinson with a time of 22:32, sophomore Erika Hoddinott (24:03), sophmore Jasmine Brooks (26:06), freshman Felicia Sullivan (26:31), freshman Sarah Oullette (26:36), sophmore Amy Brown (27:30), freshman Emily Foster (27:57) and sophmore Kendra Pouliot (28:19). The Beavers will travel to UMass Dartmouth for an Invitational Meet next weekend on Saturday September 17th.
