Women's Cross Country Runners Compete in NCAA
Regional Race
The UMF men's and women's cross country teams competed at the NCAA
Regional race on November 15th at Twinbrook Recreational Area. For the
women, The northeast region is currently one of the most competitive regions
hosting past national champions such as Middlebury and Williams. This race
is by far the most competitive race that UMF has ever had the pleasure of
competing in. Considering these facts, the UMF women harriers capped off an
excellent season, although running individually. Holly Chapdelaine placed
187th out of 252 runners and ran the 6K course in a time of 27:11. Kate
Dickinson place 204th and ran 28:02, just missing dipping under 28 minutes.
Both were outstanding performances on the windy and cold Twin Brook
course in Cumberland
Maine. This was also the first time that Holly and Kate had EVER run a
6K in competition- a great leap for both of them and they handled it
professionally.

Women's Cross
Country Season Preview
With many new runners, 2003 will be a rebuilding year for
the women's cross country team. While the team is starting out
small, they appear to be in excellent condition. Holly
Chapdelaine will lead the squad this year as the sole senior.
Freshmen Kate dickinson will follow with Nora Messier not far behind.
The team will be concentrating on staying healthy and focusing on meets
later in the season such as the home meet on October 4th and Maine States
on October 25th. This year, the team will be joining the North
Atlantic Conference, leaving the NAIA behind to become part of the NCAA
division III. This will be another change for the team in both
competition and distance, whereas Division III competes at 6k for women.
According to Coach Richardson it will take time for this young team to
find its place in the new conference. Currently the team is
relatively small and is actively seeking women with an interest in
running. For more information, please contact Coach Richardson at
