Women's basketball suffers semifinal loss

BANGOR -- Castleton State College outscored University of Maine at Farmington 9-1 in the final two minutes in the overtime as the second-seeded Beavers were upended by the No. 3 Spartans 61-59 in the North Atlantic Conference women's basketball semifinals at Husson University tonight.

Castleton (16-11) is scheduled to play the host Eagles on Saturday at 2 p.m. for the NAC title.

Caitlyn Laflin (Farmingdale, ME) notched a double-double of 20 points and 14 boards for Farmington, which ended its season at 15-11. Amanda Byrne (Winslow, ME) chipped in 14 points in the loss with Erin Porter (Bangor, ME) pitching in 12 points.

The Beavers took a 58-52 lead in the extra session before the Spartans rallied. Jessica Banks drained three free throws with 37 seconds left to give Castleton the winning advantage.

Banks and Leeanne Ketchen led Castleton with 12 points apiece.
