Edwin Thompson is in his fourth year as Assistant
Coach and Recruiting Coordinator for the University of Maine at
Farmington baseball team. He is responsibilities is recruiting
student-athletes and working primarily with the pitching staff and the
outfielders. He is also in charge of placing players into NCAA wooden
bat summer leagues across the country.
During his time at Farmington, Thompson has
overseen a pitching staff that is annually among the top in the North
Atlantic Conference in fewest hits, fewest walks and lowest batting
average. In 2007, the pitching staff was ranked 18th in the nation in
strikeouts per nine innings at 7.4.
Prior to coming to Farmington, Thompson coached at
Jay High School and helped the team win the conference title for the
first time in 20 years.
While working with the hitters he saw the team
sets numerous offensive records including highest batting average, most
runs and most hits.
Thompson has also been a coach at the national and
regional level with various top high school summer teams. He has seen 19
of his players receive scholarships to NCAA Division I schools. This
past summer, he coached two High School Aflac All-Americans and players
that that have signed with schools like University of Kentucky,
University of Southern California, and University of Georgia among
others.
A 2003 graduate of Webber University in Florida
with a bachelor of science degree in general business. Thompson played
two seasons with Webber helping them his senior year to a school record
in wins, a regional playoff berth first one in school history, was named
an Florida Sun Conference All-Star, set a school record in doubles and
was named offensive player of the year. Prior to Webber he played at the
University of Maryland in the ACC where he was the Terps leading hitter
for the final 20 games of the season hitting over .400 and helping them
with wins over top 25 teams Wake Forest and North Carolina, while
finishing fifth on the team in doubles. During his freshman year he
played at Howard University where he lead all freshmen in batting
average and doubles, playing against perennial national powers Arizona
State, Wichita State, and Georgia tech University.
Thompson also spent two seasons playing
professional baseball playing for the Bangor Lumberjacks.
He is a graduate of Jay High School, where he
earned All-State honors his senior year helping his make the playoffs
every year he played.
During the past three summers, Thompson has run
his week-long All-Star baseball camp for kids ages 6-14, having more
than 100 kids last summer.
